For the intel 1500 you just need an SMP enabled puppy

I believe 4.3.1 or 4.3.2 are ok

also see here

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=46381

and here

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=42893

though there are probably others

http://www.wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html

The celeron 430 uses a single core but runs faster FSB AFAIK, and should be fine with most recent puppies
- its the support chip and maybe video & gigabit lan drivers are more likely not supported on earlier versions

hello aitch

i am using the ECS GF7050VT-M5. maybe this is the problem.

can you recommend a good motherboard.

here is my problem: i run puppy on an intel celeron m 900mhz.

everything works great. when i use intel celeron dual core 1500,

with the ECS motherboard, alot of stuff does not work.

i am not sure if this makes sense. if i get the intel celeron 430,

what motherboard should i get?

thank you

Wow
That's a helluva mobo for Puppy

You don't just want it to fly, you wanna break the double sound barrier!

& you want me to recommend a good board? - that IS a good board.... at a price...more money; Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, EVGA, Biostar - chipsets; X38, P35, X48, P45, 750i, 780i. etc
I haven't done any fast PC/gamer setups for awhile
Cutting edge for me is P4 dualie 2.6Ghz on an Asus P4S800MX - overclocks, with some effort

Just for the moment, with the 1500 try using an SMP enabled Puppy, and add the Nvidia-185-18.36 .pet from here

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=46585

Maybe quirky 002?

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=375342

Maybe as an alternate to the 430 look at the Atom dual + Nvidia ION - Zotac do a board for about $125

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98iYnuT7 ... ature=fvwp

After all, you aren't running Vista or Win7 I hope....& once you get an SMP kernel running faster graphics make a world of difference, and the ION is getting good reviews running Call of Duty, for example

Else maybe an Asus P5K or K3 for the 430?

Dunno, it's a kinda personal thing, & depends what you do with it, and if size/heat/power consumption is an issue....

I'm tending towards 12v low power...

hello Aitch

sorry about that. i went and talked to the computer store

about the intel atom dual core, we hooked one up and it was a no go

for running puppy linux 421. we tried with a usb stick and it did not

work.

what do you think, maybe a single core intel atom might work?

we just got home and i will go back down town tomorrow.

thank you

As I said, I would suggest the latest SMP Puppies

4.3.1 or 4.3.2, quirky 002, or ChoicePup minimal SMP, as a building block basis, perhaps, or even Joe's Slaxer_pup

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=41298

or search for SMP enabled puplets/derivatives using the wellminded link I gave you

- but you probably will still likely need to add drivers, depending on the mobo of choice

see also,

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=30961

....for another earlier atom dual core success, but not ION chipset, I think

I'm sorry but Puppy is not thought of as being a cutting edge/new hardware type OS.....and is most definitely something to play with and try

Buying new hardware seems the wrong route to me.....?!? but ymmv

I don't know what else to suggest
