Tazoc you are doing great work with Lighthouse and it's already an excellent distro. Just take the time you need and don't stress trying to publish Gus every two minutes. Prioritize your dad now.

Some snow in compiz would be nice too. I know tiger puppy had it. It was fun to have.

Maybe Compiz blacklisted that card for the bugs you're seeing? How was KDE / Xfce?

Can the updates wait until Gu2 is out? I would like to finish testing and release Gu2 as is unless there is a major bug, because changing one package or script often means something else is affected.

The key combinations for 2 kinds of snow and other effects are near the bottom of Compiz-Fusion SFS which can also be reached by the link on the third line of Tips for Lighthouse Pup.

I have compiz in tiger puppy and ubuntu working 100%. It was really fast in tiger puppy actually. Anyways it was a different computer where I had fixed it by changing the blacklist, I have an intel 915gm on this laptop. Doesnt look like it is blacklisted afterall..
But I wonder if I can port the intel drivers from tiger puppy somehow, though I guess having a different kernel would make that impossible huh.

Xfce and kde dont work with it, kde just freezes all together whereas xfce does around the same thing as the lxde. Ill mess with the xorg a bit more and see what I can do, maybe if I copy the xorg from the ubuntu it will work..

I just wonder if the xorg isnt configuring proper with this version of puppy.

Hi I am new to puppy and am interested in your version will this be stable because I have crashed 5 times when updating the browsers and no one has told me how I can stop that, even though some one has posted a program so that puppy can restart correctly. Any help in the right direction would be great thanks

Speaking of Gu2, I think i've figured out how to do drive icons dynamically in a wbar. I say 'think' though because I haven't tested it yet. I'll wait until Gu2 is released (take your time) and test it in a fresh install. I'm going to be starting over with a fresh save file with my next install too. Im slowly working all the pets that I normally install into specific SFS files (one for Internet programs, one for utilities, one for multimedia, etc). So i'll do all my testing of the modified scripts on that install, and if it does work, I'll pass them your way so you can look at them and decide if its something you might want to include as a feature in any future releases.

Depends on your hardware. This Lighthouse distribution is very stable. You didn't mention which browser, if you want to use Firefox, you also need the Mariner sfs which has a lot of other nice programs also. Tazoc's site has an Opera 10 sfs if you prefer it. I've never had a problem with any of the browsers on Lighthouse.

Welcome to puppy and with Lighthouse, you've found one of the best.

Sorry I forgot to mention what browser I was using I tried using firefox and updated it to use adblocker plus it worked for awhile then crashed but took the system down with it so then tried seamonkey this worked for awhile so after installing adblocker plus and a few other addons it crashed and took the system with it. I have not updated the browser or added any other program since re installing and this the longest I have been able to use puppy with out a single problem. I do want to move away from microsoft and feel puppy linux is the way to go but am having trouble finding info on using it to its and my best ability. I would prefer to do a hard drive install and some puppies are made just for usb drives is that the same with lighthouse? Thanks for the response Jim.

You've had the same result after installing these addons into broswers, that is... a crashing system. And when you have not added them, you have not had a crash. Its pretty easy to see that the problem lies in the addons that you are trying to use.
As for other browsers, there are a bunch you can choose from. On the LHP site there is an SFS for Opera and Chrome. Also you can try out Flock. Go to their main site, download the linux version uncompress and run the shell script to start the program.

With puppy in general, you can install to USB or to a Hard Drive, either is possible. Its this ability to do both, that show its flexibility. But you can install to a hard drive using the puppy universal installer in the menu. (right click > Setup > Puppy Universal Installer)

I felt that I needed the add ons to save my 3g mobile bb credit as much as I can and to protect myself from nasty bits of code.

I am not a bright as I would like to be so am not that clued up when it comes to linux but I will try, so I will try and dl the full lighthouse package and will try it out.

Since you're using linux you dont have to worry that much about 'nasty bits of code' from browsing the web.

On the bandwidth issue, bribe one of your friends with lunch to download and burn a CD/DVD for you.

Ok so far so good everything seems to be going well however I dl openoffice sfs and tried to follow the instructions to add it to lgh but I just couldnt do it any tips please?

You've discovered a major disadvantage of a full hard drive installation. A frugal installation is usually the best option, especially when you are using sfs files.

To use the openoffice sfs file, it must first be mounted manually and then the files copied from the sfs file to the proper corresponding location. Try this sfs install program which may work for you, otherwise you will have to install it manually. Hope it works for you.

Personally, I would reinstall LHP as a frugal installation. Then, all that's necessary to run a sfs is to go to the menu, select the Boot Manager, and follow it's prompts. Reboot and you are ready to use it. Operationally, you would see no difference and you have the ease of use of extra sfs files and very simple backups and updates.

Hi Newuser,
I agree with Jim1911 and highly recommend the frugal install unless you are compiling a kernel. It makes updating and customizing much easier, esp. for SFS add-ons. If you must keep the full install you can use PET MAKER PLUS to install an SFS as a pet. However, this is not how the SFS method was designed and may over-write system files that may cause problems, especially when uninstalling the SFS.

Use a frugal install instead, trust me once you've tried it you'll be happy with the results.

Updated to LHP 443 Gu2. I am using savefile from Gu1. Works allright so far.

Booting from CD Gu2 appears to be working fine on my old Panasonic Toughbook CF-29.

The network app had some trouble finding the router but after several tries did so and actually appears to be running a little more quickly.

I think that Barry has been tweaking that whole system ...

I have to go out and plant part of the garden so will beat on it a little more later.

Anything in particular you'd like tested?
