no video with panasonic CF-45

I have a Panasonic CF-45 laptop with pentium II and 32 MB RAM, running windows 98 SE. It has a SVGA TFT screen, 800 X 600, 18 bit. Puppy linux 4.3.1 live CD. The xorg test was good, but neither xorg or xvesa work. With xorg I get a black screen with the panel at the bottom and a live curser. I get the message at the top of the black screen “Welcome!
