Using the type of startup menu in Puppeee (or just a bash script)
It might be possible to give 3 startup options for Lucid 5.0.2?
1 Auto (default) - same as in Lucid 5
2 Safe Video - same as in 5.0.1 - Boot 5.0 with 'pfix=nox'
3 Run in Ram - 'puppy pfix=ram'

Spotify works for me in:
Puppy NOP 412 (uses XFCE)
Quirky 1.0 (uses Busybox)
It fails with the same problem in Quirky 1.1 (uses JWM like Lucid).
Maybe JWM is the problem?
Hi nooby, you can check wine version in menu option utility->Wine Config->aboutWhat we have in common are AMD Athlon and NVidia but hopefully they can learn from Quirky why that one survives.
Can it be they use different versions of Wine? How does one find out which version one make use of?

If you want to you can test with IceWM.. There is a link in Quickpet in the menu tabs. When you install it you drop to the prompt and type "xwin icewm session". It should work OK.
Hey nooby, I can be dense! What is Spotify and what's it do? Where do you get it?
Cheers

Just xwin icewm has always worked for me, but you should put a hyphen in "icewm-session" if you use that. Either one will change your default WM to IceWM, so if you (unlike me) ever want to get JWM back, you have to exit to the prompt again and enter xwin jwm .01micko wrote:If you want to you can test with IceWM.. It's stupid to use inferior software for ideological reasons.

Spotify
01micko,
many thanks for that , it seemed to do the trick. It looks as though JWM was the problem. Spotify works well with icewm.
Spotify is a music player developed in Sweden with a large library of free music. Unfortunately so far they have limited the number of countries that can use it , but if and when you can get access it's well worth trying.
Thanks again,
scruffy

Since 5.0.1 has been released, I was wondering if there will be a patch update for 5.0 installations via Quickpet
Having said that, 5.0 works just fine for me so I would only like to update to fix something that doesn't work properly even if I haven't found it yet!
I'm so tired I can't even tell if any of that makes sense!

nooby,
I've just had another small success. Icewm looks very good but you can also run Spotify in JWM.
Open option Utilities->General Untilities->Wine Config->Graphics
untick 'Allow window manager to decorate the windows'
untick 'Allow the window manager to control the windows'
Click Apply
Spotify now works in JWM.
Lucid Puppy seems to do it all now!

hope this helps, i am kind of new to this feedback stuff, but here are my experiences with lucid puppy 5.0.1:
lucid puppy 501 notes
5 25 2010 5:30 am
downloaded and used burncc to burn iso image. (am always impressed with the simplicity and reliability)!
booted finally using vesa after 3 attempts at booting.
all puppy pfix=ram
first, went thru keyboard and time zone finally to probe automatically. chose 1024x768 . went to next page and chose test. hit enter, came up to blank screen and hung. rebooted.
second attempt, same sequence but this time tabbed over and chose “ intel

apologies for the late reply!playdayz wrote: We hope to have a usable fix by at least the 5.0.1 bugfix release. I am sorry this happened. For now you cna try this.
When Lucid Puppy starts to boot, type in
I mistakenly said pfix=ramCode: Select all
puppy pfix=nox
and then enter. This should boot to a prompt. At the prompt enter
Does 'xorgwizard' work?Code: Select all
xorg-setup.old
Pick a keyboard and then Choose and change the Intel driver. I think that is how it will work. If not please tell me what you see as you go and I will check later today. Puppy does have the capability to choose between the Intel drivers and to pick the one that does not give a black screen.
i own a Asus P5QPL-AM Intel G41 mobo
i boot Puppy off a multi-boot USB stick (to save Cd's etc...learnt from here: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=21702)
downloaded your new 5.01 version.
bear in mind that i booted into 1280x1024 in previous versions.
inputted your code above but had to choose kb/locale/timezone before i got to the command line.
i then then rang the xorg-setup.old adn then had to re-run the kb config screen.
i then choose intel and it booted into xorg @ 800x600.
for the record the whole system freezes if i try to play gxine.
out of curiosity i did all the above with a CD version and it was all the same.
i would love to see 1280x1024 resolution with a working multimedia program.
am happy to keep testing for you - til we crack this
many thanks for the great work so far!
Hi cifa, The 5.01 version should not require any of the pfix=nox and xorg-setup business. If you just boot the CD and let it run it will ask about your country, keyboard, timezone, and then probe your video card--or else you can choose a video driver and then choose a resolution. Version 5.01 was especially for the people who were having trouble with Intel video, but it is for everyone. It is now the official Lucid Puppy. I hope that works. Thanks.downloaded your new 5.01 version.

I must have missed something.
All of a sudden I see talk about lucid 100, while 501 is just announced.
What is this lucid 100 and how does it compare to 501?

went to load module, looked for wl, as this is the driver that works in fatdog. it is not there.
tried all other broadcom drivers, nothing worked.(b43legacy, b43, b44, bnx2, wl3501_cs) .
looked over all other drivers, nothing looks close.
attempted ndiswrapper. no good as well.
therefore, no internet via wifi. (probably could hook modem up via cat
I remember Kirk saying that he would be basing fatdog on that
puppy.
Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.

And so if Fatdog works that is great. It is 64-bit though so you need that kind of processor. You might also try Barry's Wary Puppy which is designed for older hardware. And finally, when the cycle starts for Lucid Puppy 5.1, you could jump in and raise the issue--when there might be a little more flexibility to solve the problem. Thanks. Oh, is that an old wifi card? SorryWhen jrb created the bcm4312v3 puppy for broadcom cards with wl,

Alsaconfig?next, tried to play video. (gxine 0.5.9)
video runs with no sound. played .flv , wmv, .mp4 video but no audio.
tried to configure but have no idea what to do other than play with equalizer.

thanks for bearing with me. just to be clear, i have never had a prob booting into a desktop unlike some other Intel users.
just to report that i booted the CD without any 'cheat codes' and after following the usual routine of selecting country, keyboard & timezone, i probed the g-card. i was only given the 800x600 resolution. even when i chose the Intel driver, it was only 800x600. i tried 1280x1024 - but no joy as the desktop boots to 800x600.
