Obtaining/installing missing dependencies UPup 4.5.8

#1 Post by Azpedey »

Hello everyone. Newbie to UPup Linux, however, have been using Puppy 4.3.1 for couple months. My problem is I cannot find the missing dependencies/libraries listed after a dependency check.

I wiped and reinstalled UPup 4.5.8 this morning (third try) and it runs fine with no missing dependencies. Used PPM to download/install kpat 4.3.2 and the listed dependencies. The dependency check during the install process shows:

...found these missing dependencies:

kdepimlibs-dbg
libdjvulibre21
libgpm2
libgraphviz4
libmysqlclient16
librasqal1
libsdl1.2debian-alsa

The menu shows kpatience but will not run.

I then downloaded/installed Gimp 2.6.7 (using PPM) and the dependency check during the install shows these missing libraries:

File /usr/lib/gegl-0.0/display.so has these missing library files:
libSDL-1.2.so.0
File /usr/lib/gimp2.0/plug-ins/file-aa has these missing library files:
libgpm.so.3

And these additional missing dependencies:
python2.5-cairo
python2.5-gobject
python2.6-cairo
python2.6-gobject

These results are the same as previous attempts to install and use these applications. I have searched the web, this forum, Ubuntu Karmic and other locations and have not found a single one of the listed items. After a week of battling this, I need help to try to locate and install the missing libraries and dependencies.

Is it possible to get these items or should I just give up on UPup?

Thanks, GrumpyWolfe, I will check out the location you suggested. I appreciate your help. I'm just trying to check out several Linux versions to see what I am happy with, so trying to get the functions I want to work.

Grumpy Wolfe - thanks for the link to obtain missing files. I found most, but not all, that I needed. Still have not found the Python files that are missing.

I downloaded the Gimp program from the site you suggested, installed, showed no dependencies missing, but does not run. I erased that installation and installed Gimp using PPM and now it seems to work. Don't know what was going on but it appears that I now have it.

Thanks again for your help. Norm
