I followed the instructions given to install and got very large icons (3 times the size as normal). I exited to terminal prompt and tried to restart x with JWM and now I can't get x to run at all. Now when I reboot it tries to sart x and dumps me right back to terminal.
Can you tell me how to get back to my original settings?
Use the force
(sorry wrong forum and probably planet)
from the prompt (not the console) xwin jwm does not work?
OK this is what I would do (whilst awaiting more elegant solutions)
Boot Puppy with an option that does not effect the hard disk
go to /mnt/home and change the name of pup001 to pup001_jedi then turn off the machine and start again . . .
You will of course lose your settings - shucks!
This assumes you are running from CD are you?
The advantage of this is you get fast at "reinstalling" Puppy - I can do it in about 3-5minutes which includes getting on the net
But I have the force on my side . . .
Hope that helps - where is Yoda Puppy Master when you need him?

Thank you both for your replies. I am running from a live CD with pup001 on HD in a fat32 partition. I am running standard puppy 1.08.
When xwin failed to restart and put me back to terminal, I typed xwin and got the same result - I thought I was stuck in a loop. I followed the directions on the screen to start fvwin (not sure exactly what it said) and still got the same results. Now though if I follow MU's intructions "xwin jwm", all is good again.
xfce4 is not only a window manager but a "desktop environment", it has a lot of extra programs like a text editor, a mixer, a calendar etc
the main components are:
xfwm4 - this is the real window manager
xfpanel - the panel
xfdesktop4 - manage desktop (and the menu)
xftaskbar - the taskbar
to get the pack small and light some things were substituted by others:
xfdesktop4 by the already present in Puppy Rox (that gives desktop icons what xfdesktop do not ! ) -- but it had to be compiled because of menu in the panel, after that the excutable xfdesktop4 was deleted
xftaskbar was substituted by the taskbar plugin from the pack xfce4 goodies
I added also from the same pack the a network and the showdesktop plugin to win the "showdesktop button" I love
after that I deleted a lot of docs, themes and more themes, locales and other localized files, etc
my compiling and test plataform was an ever virgin (dont save anything on exit) multissession remaster I made of Puppy 1.0.8r1 plus usr_devx and MC
I booted and pressed 5, did the compiling and striping , copied the contents of /root/.usr to a folder, deleted a lot, made a dotpup and copied it to hd, rebooted again without saving and tested the dotpup to see it works
Can you remaster this package to include only the xfce4-panel, panel plugins and required deps. I want to use it as an osx like launch bar for my mac look for puppy.
OK, I edited the dotpup my self. I stripped down it to only the panel and deps. You will need to edit the /root/.config/xfce4/panel/contents.xml to manipulate settings such as size and position
I'm having trouble starting XFCE4 at the right resolution. I am trying it with a fresh pupxxx file running on emptycrust. I downloaded and installed the dotpup, exited to the prompt and typed xwin xfce4-session but it would start in 640x480 resolution in Xvesa. I tried to change it to a higher resolution on the video wizard but after the screen going black it would send me back to the small resolution. the worst part is that it is only showing the top left corner of the screen I can only see my home and browse icons. if I try to access the xfce settings only a corner of the dialog box is visible with the option for gamma correction but I can't move it up to see if any of the other setting can help.
I am writing this now from my regular pupxxx in jwm since xfce would not let me exit to the prompt either. What do I need to edit to get my regular 1024x768 resolution?

Same here. 800x600 only, Xorg. From THIS PAGE: "Availability
Please note that the display plugin only works with XFree86 >= 4.3.0 or Xorg >= 6.7.0. In either case the XFree86-VidModeExtension must be enabled in the Xserver to change the gamma correction and the RANDR must be enable to change the resolution and refresh rate. Check the output of xdpyinfo to see if your Xserver supports these extensions."
It seems that something needed is missing
