hi y'all
hi y'all
just wanted to pop in and say hi. been a member for a while and never posted a "hi" thread.
I am a complete linux newbie, i have been using on and off (more off than on) 421 on a usb stick for quite a while and recently decided to install it on my old A22M thinkpad with opera 10.10, gimp and UFraw. runs very well so far, but thinking I might try 5.0 on it soon....
anyhow you probably wont see that much of me unless you have a photography section

Just me curious.
By install you mean full install or frugal install?
I have tested both but I prefer frugal to full due to how easy it is to update and to make a back up and have as many installs as one feel for without much hassle. To install a new puppy it takes at most one minute in frugal.

My handle is just embarrassing. I mean me is embarrassing so the name kind of makes sense.
Re your full install. Consider that when you want to test Lupu 5.00
You don't need a floppy of USB either to do such install. But what you need is to change the menu.lst so it has the boot up code for lupu. You need to do a directory for lupu and to click on the iso and copy over three files to the subdirectory named lupu500 or something.
these files
vmlinuz
initrd.gz
lupuxxx.sfs (I don't remember the exact name now bit it is the only such named file there so you can not do any mistake on it.
user rcrsn51 here in the forum has a very good description on how to.
most likely this thread
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=4692
he has described it in other places too. and such for usb too.

Then you could do a very fast manual frugal install on same partition as where puppy 421 is on now.hinking I might try 5.0 on it soon.

As for camera's, I'm keen to explore the possibilities with my new Pentax F-x Digital SLR so any tips would be great. Start your own Photography thread if you like; you'll get at least one willing devotee!

Dude, linux is a wonderful new world, all great journeys start with the first steps and you might as well have been in a cage prior with hooks galore that you also had to pay plenty for, not to mention being a complete royal pita to run.ving wrote:I did?jonyo wrote:you just hit the jackpotving wrote:I am a complete linux newbie

A clear break from the masses, status quo BS and malarky.
Also reminds me of my first solo flight, without an instructor, no one ever forgets that.
rofl jonyo, baby steps mate, baby steps... puppy seems like a nice distro tho (i had a small look around).
whodo, without taking anything away from this forum, and it is a great one for linux and all related, you'd be better off heading over to ausphotography.net.au for camera related stuff
of course i am more than willing to answer any questions you might have tho.

I wasn't really thinking of asking questions so much as sharing the passion. That said, I have taken your advice and registered at ausphotography.net.au too!ving wrote:whodo, without taking anything away from this forum, and it is a great one for linux and all related, you'd be better off heading over to ausphotography.net.au for camera related stuff

Thanks for the offer of help, tho!
