can anyone point me how to install sfs in TXZ450 and txz for hiawatha?
decompressing (unsquashing it ) a sfs is not difficult you just need a lot of free space
make sure you have a lot of free space before doing this on a large sfs
I´ll upload the squashfs 4 tools *
TXZ pup used squashfs3.4
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/squashfs-t ... 3_SLXR.txz
special use only ok you wont need this much
then those squashfs4 sfs files would use
in your root directory you will see a folder called squashfs-root
inside that contains the sfs you decompressed
then you make a package
learning something new can be fun if you can't be bothered by that now
if you list some SFS packages known to work I could convert them to TXZ packages
because by design SFS file have a limit of how many you could mount that is by design a limited system to base the build on
*they have their use but its very limited
I really tried to avoid petget registering packages
one of the reasons I packaged over 400 TXZ packages
there is a lot of really technical stuff going on when you install a package
1.)one long answer for petget
2.)one long answer for slackwares package tools
since I wrote the package tools front end believe me when I say its a long answer
but I will make this very brief
slackwares package tools has quite a few advantages
not in the pretty GUI stuff but in its backend its a work horse
one example of installing a SFS by converting it to a pet then
using pet get is it will wipe out files when you delete it (maybe leaving you broken )
slackwares package tools checks every installed package before removing a program
so if there was an overlap and another package needed a lib it in "theory"
would not remove that file (not perfect but a step in the right direction)
also if you notice every dependency could be checked on all packages that
are installed using package tools for the "so called core packages on puppy" but in slackware everything is removable even the important system files can be removed
a lot of power there so care is needed but with that power you get great flexibility
to modify everything
packages can be compared easily which each new version
every package should registered with package tools
to gain those and many more features
I will upload some tools to covert and make packages
keeping it easy of course
*(package making is and always be a technical job
since you have to consider many technical things first
kernels versions ,libs, glibc , file locations , squashfs versions, config files, window managers etc.... )
