Lupu- Localising Quickpet
Dutch
Dutch translation : nl_NL 299-2.
Some remarks:
1. I didn't see all that many "/n" instances, so I left the few ones I found in the translation and didn't add any new ones. Tried to make sure the translated sentences were no longer than the originals. Of course, if needed I will change this by adding "/n" every ten words or so and re-upload nl_NL.
2. I didn't understand the discussion about the quotes. I just copied and did not translate \"Install\", as I presume no one is working on desktop localisation for Lupu 5.1. Correct?
Thank you Mick!

Hello Bert !
Just to clarify the issue with escaped quotes, they are generally allowed in gtkdialogue, but not in the tooltips (or, perhaps because the references to the tooltips in quickpet.sh are already contained within \"s) - my mistake was to quote a word in $LOC353, which is used as a pop-up tooltip, and that made quickpet to refuse to run
Anyway, lupu's fun /

What seems hard is actually easy, while what looks like impossible is in fact hard.

Hebrew and Arabic Localization
______________________________________________________
I have written a tutorial to aid people who want to contribute to the
localization of Puppy Projects by translating English phrases into
Hebrew or Arabic. There is a lack of a good bidirectional text editor,
but I think I have found the solution. It is called Yudit.
I believe it has enough features to do the job. I don't speak Hebrew
or Arabic so I don't know. I do know that it must allow several
languages and two directions of text flow, and Yudit supports this.
I invite feedback.

Possible minor annoyance - I can't double check it now because I'd have to reinstall Puppy to make sure, but the it_IT file in my 5.1 install seems to be encoded as ISO-8859-1, while the other quickpet translation files are UTF-8.
I noticed that because I was getting a weird crossed-box character in place of the accented vowels. I opened the /usr/local/quickpet/locals/it_IT file with Geany, saved it back as UTF-8 (no BOM) and then the accented vowels were rendered correctly. Not sure whether it makes a difference for all users or only the ones that choose to run their apps in UTF-8 as I do, but I thought to report it just in case.
EDIT: I did double check with a fresh install that I had to do for another reason, and I can confirm that it_IT does come encoded as ISO-8859-1.
With the ISO encoding the Italian accented vowels in Quickpet are broken for everybody (whether they check the UTF-8 box on chooselocale or not), and saving the file as UFT-8 fixes the issue for everybody .

Thanks for pointing out this issue, it will be fixed in the next version.
I wonder.. since you seem to be native Italian.. can you complete the Italian translation? Not just yet though.. in the coming days there will be some minor changes,
Grazie tanto!
