Lucid Puppy 5.1.1 Release - This is the official release
222 testing box1,2
me again
box1 (intel internals all the way)
frugal to /dev/sda3/puppy222
start: puppy pfix=ram
-started with instructions to install xorg-high
-started as before with screen at 1600x1200@85hz
-changed down to 1280x1024@85 OK
-changed down to 1024x768@85 > failed as expected BUT with a <ctrl><alt><bs> it dropped out of X to a prompt with instructions to use xorgwizard.
-started xorgwizard, chose choose button >but no i915 in pick list, therefore cancelled and started probe which seemed to work, selected test and changed down freq and size to as before ok
-installed frugal ok
-menu, shutdown, reboot to setup a save file > blue screen changed matrix up to 1800x1440@80hz therefore displayed data is very small
-working through the savefile creation works ok and it rebooted
- started via menu ok
- xorg-high installed ok
- rebooted ok and xorg-high ok
-started firewall ok
-qpets work ok
-pets from a mem stick installed ok
-started ff, had to resize to deal with the vertical "straiffing" but ok otherwise.
-doing this report from there, seems ok >except for the browser font has the narrow font characters though still
-checked midori, >font is ok but getting "giddy" when scrolling page
will update later when box2 has been loaded (love the new "month" as plenty of bandwidth (for now)).
regards
scsijon
ps my drive indicator works ok, orange bubble root, green bubble mounted.
pps just rebooted into my 5.1 working system and found it had reset to max matrix again, hm that didn't happen last time.
Box2
runs like a dream except for the following 2 problems
1- it has two cd drives and even though it is booted from the first it insists that I put the cdrom in the second to do an install! ?why?
2- it's modem worked under 431 but is not detected now. There seems some info and the fix via pet on this problem in barrys latest quirky. Can you see if one of the two is compatable with 511 please?
boxes 3 (dell) &4 (ipex) later today.
regards
scsijon

Icewm bug with tray icons...
I gather this snuk in in latest woof, the ice package needs slight modification
First, open /usr/share/icewm and delete the blinky and freememapplet executables.
Second, open /root/Startup and delete z-fix-icewm-tray or whatever it is.. (um I already deleted it )
Third, replace /usr/local/sbin/jwmx2 script with the one attached, expand.
That should do it.
Cheers

Moved "jwmx2" to /usr/local/bin/.............working now.James C wrote:Let's see....
In /root/startup/ there is.."wmfix" and "z-start-icetrayapps".....I chose the second.
In /usr/local/sbin/ ,there is no jwmx2 to replace, only a link to dhcpd in /sbin/. Expanded and put file there.
Where did I go wrong?
EDIT:
"jwmx2 is in /usr/local/bin/.........
222.... Same Old Problem
Thought I would try the default configuration this time. Fresh Frugal, save file yet to be created..... booted to desktop as expected. Opted to use given defaults as they looked OK. Set Wlan0 no problem. Set Locale to UK, no problem. Tried to set Flsynclient..... Synaptics not found!
Re-booted creating save file. Tried Flsynclient again... Synaptics not found.
Deleted save file, re-booted using classic configuration system. All no problem INCLUDING successful Synaptics install.
Notice others have had this problem in the past.
Hmmmm...............

Abusing 222
I did an update, rather than install.
That went OK, glad to be using FF 3.6.8
Maybe if rolling over quickpet
or some other consistent way.
Incidentally roll over three screen icons on right (lock, zip and trash)
creates prompts that come up after a second or two
Nothing for the screen icons on the other side?
At least calc could come up with spreadsheet or something . . . ?

Yes that version info would be good as standardI have the habit of using 01micko's pet:

Ah.. yes.. before my BRAIN (or lack thereof ) was rudely interupted by RANDOM thoughts of.. (er no, that's private).. well there is a step 4..James C wrote:Something went wrong.....................01micko wrote:luci-222

Fourth, click the Quick Launch button and edit Quick Launch.. change the 'refresh tray icons' command from /root/Startup/z_fix_icewm_tray to simply jwmx2
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Running fine on my old P3, even the special treat I have in store... Oh no! I have let half the cat out of the bag!

Have the mounted icon bug here too, must be something to do with event-manager..
BTW, the new acx driver for Texas Instruments wireless cards is working perfectly, better than ndiswrapper.

Feature Request
I just checked out MyWolfe-020
http://puppylinux.org/news
It has a new login script made by Pizzagood which will allow those who like to do a full install to be able to keep other people from running there system without their knowledge by creating a root login password.
I wish future Puppy version have this feature

The Synaptics touchpad works from the first desktop, but the flsynclient fails.DaveS wrote: Tried to set Flsynclient..... Synaptics not found!

I made a wrapper script which can be a solution.
Try this.

Your tests of flsynclient seem to suggest what all the problem with flsynclient has been all about.
In order for flsynclient/synclient to work it needs SHMconfig to be enabled. This is on the instruction pages for synclient.
When Xorg is operated in the classic way with a manual configuration via the xorg.conf file this file usually contains the SHMconfig enable line.
When Xorg operates automagically I never really knew whether SHMconfig was enabled or not. You testing seems to suggest it isn't and this is why flsynclient didn't work!
I hated Windows trying to think for me and telling me what I wanted. I feel the same now about XOrg!
The approach seems to be:
Let's configure automatically
Let's hide the details of the automatic configuration - we don't want to make it too easy for support staff
We better make it so you CAN do some manual configuration or else it is not going to work for some people.
In order to manually configure we will make it so you have to issue a magic command to enable you to do so - that will stop the riff raff trying!

James C, er, another apology.. the sbin should have been bin thing..
There has been the correct Ice package uploaded since the 24th.
playdayz, you may have missed it.. I know it get's hard to keep up! (see my folder on smokey's repo)
This will correct everything except deleting /root/Startup/z-start-icetrayapps (it's the correct path this time, please delete that file) for any other users wishing to try.
Cheers
