Haven't tried it yet. If you do give it ago, make sure it's on a clean pupsave, don't want to mess up your setup.

I'll be testing this soon as I now need some video editor, which quirky did you use this with? Newest quirky is built with wary packages and I don't like that I'd rather use older quirky. I'll see if I can mirror sfs on xrter's server too
EDIT:Ok, I'm downloading quirky 1.2

puppy.b0x.me stuff mirrored HERE or HERE
Hi battleshooter
a really wonderfull SFS really.
I did have difficulties to start as indicated and did enter
and after that create a link
so that I can enter
in the console
or
add it in /root/.jwmrc in the block
In this case puppy goes immediately after the wm start in kde.
To exit kde
I only did find the way to enter
exec wmreboot
or
exec wmpoweroff
to restart the usual Quirky desktop with
it seem not to be possible to use the sfs with the newest quirky probably because the arrangement and management of the files in the ISO are different?
thank you for this great work (because I am a fervent user of Konqueror as long as I am working on translation, text comparaisons etc. because it is possible to split the text as in the most applications of KDE
the KDE office did reappear in Debian. I did install it Debian-Testing Squeeze and SID. KDE office ist light compared with LibreOffice. about the same as the newest versions of Gnome office depending of the preinstalled depencies. perhaps a way to make a powerfull environment without to much installed stuff
but I would not renounce to JWM but give both possibilities: jwm or kde.
it would be great to have a woof with kde and kde office instead of Gnome office and different window managers

Ah great, glad to know you found the SFS useful Oui
I've been meaning to post a whole heap of fixes Triminh has been helping me find including the shutdown fix but I have been very lazy :\
Hmm, no, I will not be doing a KDE sfs for Woof. Woof is made for older hardware, and well, KDE is so much bling and requires relatively good modern hardware to be used the way it was designed. Basically KDE4 is notorious for eating resources and Woof is for computers with little resources. So no, I'm not planning on making a Woof KDE4 sfs. I might make a Lupu one, but not Woof, sorry
Yeah, I don't think this SFS will work on other Quirkys. Barry changed the structure and kernels quite a bit.
Thanks for you feed back though

I have not tested it on Lupu 5.2 yet. Aarf tried it on Lupu 511 though, but the results were a little flawed. I haven't actually tried out Lupu 5.2 yet.. I'm looking forward to it though.

Hi Elnar
It appears that the big kdenlive.sfs is really dependent of the structure of the files in the ISO of Quirky 1.2.
Barry Kauler did reorganize that in Quirky 1.3 and following in Quirky 1.4. It seems it is no way back to the old structure (excepted perhaps through remastering the ISO as Quirky 1.2 did that but with the content of other other Puppys in the adequate directories! a real adventure!)
For other Puppy's you will have the same difficulties that the file structure has to be the same and the contents about the same as in Quirky 1.2.
hm, you can try it. it is really easy to link a *.sfs to a frugal installation!
- sometimes all the available KDE applications appear in the JWM menu
- and sometimes not
what is to do to make the entries really permanent?
and I would be very interesting to add more KDE applications especially kopete because of the good skype and webcam integration and probably perhaps the KDE office (reappeared in Debian testing! and I have to change to Debian to use them)
can you give recommendations what is to do for it?
from witch repository (url) are the package or sources you did use to find the same complements?
kind regards

This is in a way, a standalone Kdenlive package for Quirky. But at the same time, it's not a cut down KDE libs deal. It has a working KDE desktop, with basic applications like Dolphin, Konqurer, and Konsole.
Headers are all included so add the Quirky devx file and you're already to compile KDE apps or more modules. I've already done KDE_Multimedia if anyone's interested in that I'll upload it.
etc...

Hi
Little progress:
I did add 2 icons founded on
http://www.linupedia.org/opensuse/Dolphin
and
http://www.linupedia.org/opensuse/Kdenlive
in the icons directory (I did not found some good icon for kwrite) and add this directory in
/etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc
as following
(I show also my startup command because I have a little problem with ayttm: it starts but it starts full sized and I would prefer it would start only as icon minimized in the system tray like skype)
but I have to redefine a lot of lines manually in /root/.jwmrc and it is not really optimal.
And if the lines containing the icons addresses and command for
kwrite
konsole
dolphin
kNetAttach (why this in Puppy?)
konqueror
Dragonplayer
Juk
kdenlive
are disappearing it is necessary to (des)install somewhat (needed or not ) to make the reappears again and then all the lines in the menu are new and have to be reamended manually again (names of icons coming wrong into the /root/.jwmrc)
I don't know the place where to amend and eliminate this repeated error!

Problems creating Kdenlive title clip on Lucid Puppy 5.2.0
I was able to get the Kdenlive SFS to work with Lucid Puppy 5.2.0.
However, in the Kdenlive config wizard it shows on the Checking MLT Engine page a red X beside the installed modules for:
QImage Module
Title Module
I can edit clips but when I try to create a title clip the "OK" button is grayed out.
The Kdenlive site indicates that this is due to the missing modules and they suggest:
For titles it is necessary to have "qimage" and "kdenlivetitle".
If one is missing you need to install a different MLT package or compile it with qimage support enabled.
It looks like the SFS has mlt-0.5.6.
Could the MLT be updated or recompiled with qimage support in the SFS?
Thanks,
Steve

presentation of KDE 4.4.4 in action in Quirky
Hi
I did post here
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=67597
4 print screen showing my kde 4.4.4 from above SFS in action!
the 1. link shows mTpaint working to make and being processing the print screen
the 2. link shows the KDE desktop
the 3. link shows different applications opened but I did forget to show wine and libre office working under KDE 4.4.4
I did complete it in the 4. link
you can see the most little windows browser of the Windows word in action under Wine (it is not only little: it is COMPLETELY independent from I.E.!!!)
you can see right in the task bar the quick start icone from the only-windows-world Mozilla browser named K-meleon (both browsers can process the windows favorites as they are) but I am sorry to report that it does not work very well under wine
you can see libre office writer in action.

recommendations concerning KDE usage
you start in JWM opening 2 instances of 'gexec'
and you open immediately all non-kde applications that you intend to use in the next minutes or time
- skype
- ayttm
- seamonkey
- zim
- TV-view (is on the third screen in action at the right side, very fast, no problem)
- libre office
etc...
you can also pre open the real kde applications you intend to use (Konqueror etc.) if you find links in the JWM menu (or using a third instance of gexec)
and start the first instance of gexec after entering the command 'startkde'
and now you go to the refrigerator or coffee automat to patient with comfort!
but you wait so only once!
because the start of applications under KDE is very longer as in JWM (I install the full KDE in Debian but use the JWM after installation!)
if you only start KDE you have to wait for the start of KDE itself
and after that for the start of each application separately and more for Libre Office because it is colossal or for wine applications...
and to quit kde properly, you use the last instance of gexec prepared in the task bar to enter 'wmexit' followed by 'enter'.
after that, you are in command line outside X
you can restart X using the normal command 'xwin'.
in my installation
all hidden directories
- seamonkey
- kde
- wine
and the directory 'notes' for 'zim'
are
on /mnt/home
so that a qrky-save.2fs with only 80 MB would be enough!

problems concerning KDE usage
I did just report that qrky-save.2fs with only 80 MB would be enough!
It is true, but it is also wrong:
I did see a continuous need of memory without to find a reason on my system where the rest memory stay constant if I only use JWM: the rest memory is 28 MB and don't change.
Under KDE
a/ I can't observe the rest memory because the indicator is not in the task bar as in JWM
b/ if I return to JWM using the described way, the rest memory did decrease to 18, the 17 etc. MB and continue to decrease if I work longer
(what I do? I I erase and start each day with a new qrky-save.2fs until I will understand what happen!)
Other problems actually:
Konqueror is spartan ! All the goodies I have in Seamonkey don't work in Konqueror (I thing it is different to the usage in Debian: in Debian Konqueror uses all the plugins of mozilla. But I can't remember what is the matter with foreign language dictionaries.
so, I am now in Konqueror, that I can't include Emoticons or use the Icons to make < b > , < url > , < img > etc in the little forum editor windows from konqueror and I am not happy as I would prefer to use konqueror for more things...
and I would be happy to have the memory indicator in the task bar of KDE as well as a quick key for 'gexec' (a quick key for 'gexec' is also missing under JWM)
I will have now to learn how to add more KDE applications to my system.
I would be very interesting to use Amarok, Rosegarden or Koffice (yes it is again available in Debian! it is the reason why I continue to install and use Debian on my PC), perhaps also Kopete, Kturtle, etc
bye

Ahhh sorry Oui,
All these months you have been posting detailed posts and I haven't replied a single one, please accept my apologies. I've been busy with uni so haven't spent much time maintaining this project. I'll have a look over what you've posted and try to respond appropriately, but just needed to post this in case I don't get around to replying.

I'm actually surprised they appear at all for me the only apps that appear in the menu (in Icewm) is Kwrite, Kdenlive, Dolphin and Konqueror. I suspect this is due to KDE's menu entry system being of a different structure from Puppy.oui wrote:- sometimes all the available KDE applications appear in the JWM menu

All KDE packages are KDE 4.4.4. Here's the page I got the source code from:oui wrote:from witch repository (url) are the package or sources you did use to find the same complements?

I recently compile the latest KDE 4.6.0 on Lupu 5.2.5. It seems to be relatively more bug free than the old KDE 4.4.4 I have posted. Some of the old problems such as shutdown not working, rxvt locking up seem to have disappeared. As I recall the memory indicator seems to appear as it should. Hopefully I will be able to post this new package in the near future, other than that, I'm afraid I have no immediate solution for the task bar.oui wrote:a/ I can't observe the rest memory because the indicator is not in the task bar as in JWM
Yes, I am also very interested in these other KDE apps available. I find KDE apps are quite mature and feature full, it's one of the reasons I compiled KDE. That said though, I've never been able to compile Amarok sucessfully My most recent attempt was only a month ago, I came very close (98%) But couldn't finish it off.oui wrote: I would be very interesting to use Amarok, Rosegarden or Koffice (yes it is again available in Debian! it is the reason why I continue to install and use Debian on my PC), perhaps also Kopete, Kturtle, etc

video snapshot from TV emission in the browser
Hi
I look at my national tv chain with seamonkey in quirky 1.2
the url is
http://jt.france2.fr/20h
after the stream did start, it is possible to change the date and in my special case, I will look for the emission sended at the Tuesday the 31th May 2011 at 20h and being online only a short week...
why?
about at the 15th minutes of the emission, there is a reportage about the case Dominique Strauss-Kahn. In the reportage the star defensor of the poor woman dommaged by Strauss-Kahn, Norman SIEGEL, did make a interesting declaration about justice and I will
the first difficulty was to wait 15 minutes before to reach the beginning point of the declaration: if I did cover the seamonkey windows with the video, the video stops ...
ok! I did reduce the size of this window and it was possible to open a second window for a better occupation (surf in in the puppy forum )
but I did find no way to save the video
and I did never until this date try to cut a news video of this type...
I suppose it is possible to do it with kdenlive? perhaps it is possible to pipe the stream from seamonkey (konqueror is not as good because the video don't start! I suppose that the plugins for Seamonkey are not all active in Konqueror).
the most important problem is to save the emission before next tuesday (it stay only a week online).
can some one help me to discover the steps to do?
I would be interessting to begin to write after that a tutorial in French and German in the kind of following one processing print screens
this time not for «screen snapshot» but about «video snapshot» ...
thank you for each help!
