Don't know what happened to cause my (dell) crash so. I will try wary on another older Gateway PC and see what happens-Irishrm.

Hebrew and Arabic support

#83 Post by don570 »

When I checked if there was support for Hebrew or Arabic
I found there was none. I used the test page
http://www.yudit.org/test.html

The solution was to install the improved DejaVu fonts
by Iguleder.
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=30875

I also discovered that Rox Filer now allows Arabic filenames and
folder names. Nice.

Thinkpad 600E pcmcia problem

#84 Post by peebee »

pup431 runs ok on my old Thinkpad 600E laptop.....

as wary094 is aimed as a replacement for pup431 thought I'd try it.

Boots OK from frugal install but no pcmcia cards are detected.

Tried to issue the pcmcia-socket-startup command as this did the trick on another puppy - but this time it freezes the cursor and mouse/touchbutton effectively crashing the Thinkpad.

Anybody got any ideas on how to bring the pcmcia back to life under wary094? I need if for wifi etc so its a bit of a show stopper.

Or is this laptop too old for wary???

Many thanks
Peter

wary frugal boot also created an /initrd directory on the harddrive among all the other dirs there

I mv this new created folder one level deeper into NewDir
( and deleting the link /mnt/home that pointed to this new created /initrd directory
( which should point to / at full installs ) )
finally made it to boot 'ro' again.

I would have to `diff -uraNd /woof0 /woof1` to see the differences.

I had a short look at some Upup-432-woof these days and had been overwhelmed by the many tabs at the the woof-GUI.

People that can work with it are large ways smarter than me .

Wacom Bamboo Tablet successful

#86 Post by don570 »

I was able to use my Wacom Bamboo tablet with Wary 094.
The pressure sensitivity worked with mtpaint 3.31
I installed wacom-0.8.4-4_xorg_driver.pet from
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=16491

Note that it wouldn't work when I tried the following:
wacom-0.10.7_xorg_driver.pet
wacom-0.10.8_xorg_driver.pet

right click options

#88 Post by don570 »

For extra convenience here's some right click extras
http://www.datafilehost.com/download-c0d18e18.html

For instance it will extract a pet and not destroy the original.
It will burn ISO if blank disc is in tray.
It will open up videos full screen. Press escape to exit full screen.
It will add songs to Pmusic playlist.

It's intended only as an add on.
It's very small because it's mostly links.

kenj777, glenco,
Thanks for the diag files. The HSF package seems to be damaged, to put it mildly. Give me a little time to work the problem. I plan to test with my HSF PCI modem first, then probably compile HSF for the wary kernel. The "hybrid" nature of it makes the preparation a bit tricky. I hope that is where things went wrong.

Best news since sliced bread?

#90 Post by Sage »

Had a brief interlude enabling more Wary0.9.4 testing and find that it will run tolerably well in only 144Mb. Actually, 128+32 of which 16 was used to run the onboard video (Xorg, not VESA). Could open and use eight apps.; more might've been possible. Nearly made the opening screen with 64Mb.
Hope this will spur Herr MeisterCoder to develop even smaller .iso s, as mooted recently!

Modem update package 3

#91 Post by rerwin »

I have added a new capability to the modem update package on page 2 of this thread. It supports USB modems that do not need their mode switched after the initial switch to modem mode. This requires the usb_modeswitch 1.1.4 package. Please try 1.1.4 (and related data base update -20100826) and this fix if your modem does not work after a "warm boot" (a restart, instead of shutdown and boot) with the modem still plugged in from the previous session.

The "-3" package is here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 900#461900
The usb_modeswitch packages are here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 074#431074

Having NIC problems with W0.9.4. Got boxloads of RTL8139D cards, but cannot get them auto nor manually detected, using the loaded modules. Green light is ON. 8139C nor 8139too drivers don't work. 8139D is utterly ubiquitous; expected it to be the default RTL module in the list? Is this an oversight or have I got other issues with this Intel chipset/cpu?!

Wary Puppy 0.9.4 (094) feedback

#93 Post by Billtoo »

I installed Wary 094 to a 4gb flash drive using bootflash and it's
running on my Acer Revo Nettop pc which has an Atom processor.

Computer
Processor 4x Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU 330 @ 1.60GHz
Memory 1813MB (598MB used)
Operating System Puppy Linux 0.09
User Name root (root)
Date/Time Tue 02 Nov 2010 01:43:38 PM EDT
Display
Resolution 1280x1024 pixels
OpenGL Renderer Unknown
X11 Vendor The X.Org Foundation
Multimedia
Audio Adapter HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia

Version
Kernel Linux 2.6.31.14 (i686)
Compiled #1 SMP Mon Oct 25 23:28:59 GMT-8 2010
C Library GNU C Library version 2.10.1 (stable)
Default C Compiler GNU C Compiler version 4.3.4 (GCC)
Distribution Puppy Linux 0.09

The graphics chip is an Nvidia ION and I downloaded and installed the
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.12.run graphics driver from the Nvidia web
site.

I switched to icewm version 1.3.7 and the lucid themes pet for icewm
installed and works.
I also added EudoraOSE, plus some other stuff.

Wary 094 is working well on this little pc.

edit: I've gone back to Wary 090 kernel 2.6.35.7 on two newer desktop computers, I bought more flash drives and had to use them for something :)

update on wary 094 crash.

#97 Post by irishrm »

As stated in previous posts I've had a couple of serious crashes which appear to be related to sound (dell PC) so I decided to try it on an older Gateway PC.
Audio Adapter : ICH - Intel 82801AA-ICH
Everything worked except the sound icon had a big red X over it-no sound. It would appear that my PCs and Wary don't like each other. I'll look forward to the next Wary release with interest.
BTW: Both PCs are working away happily on Lupu 5.1.1-Irishrm.

Hi rerwin

I installed the new modem_update_to_wary094-woof-3.pet and still no modem found L
I got 094 so messed up that I used unetboot and did a clean install of the 094.iso to my usb stick. Now things get complicated (sorry).
I booted up puppy 4.21 to see why it worked with my modem and what it used for the modem. Well 4.21 sees the modem as ttySL0 so I booted up 094 and added the slamr module using bootmanager and rebooted but pupdial > prode still did not find the modem so I manually added the /dev/ttySL0 to wvdial and then tried pupdial again and of course the modem was listed so I used the test modem button and the modem DID respond but errors out when I try to dial.
