Skype 2.1 beta2 - has anyone got it working?

#1 Post by mow9902 »

I've been successfully using skype 2.1 beta1 for some time now. I downloaded the "static dynamic" version (which I believe is supposed to contain all dependencies to make it a stand-alone version).

This certainly worked well for the beta1 version ....but just today I downloaded the "static" version of 2.1 beta2.
Unfortunately this version errors because it has a dependency on libQtDBus.so.4 which it cannot find.

I have looked everywhere to try to find a download for this file - but no luck so far. The closest I could find was a full Qtlibrary package from here ...http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=32054 . This package does contain libQtGui and libQtNetwork - which are both also required by skype beta2 - but unfortunately it does not contain a copy of libQtDBus.so.4

Can anyone help to point me to a copy of libQtDBus.so.4 or suggest any workarounds?

Thanks
Mow

Right .... here we go.

I did or better said johnnyw did...He has been extremely helpful in the puppylinux chat

The problem was that as you said it needs the libraries

# ldd /usr/bin/skype
libQtDBus.so.4 => not found
libQtGui.so.4 => not found
libQtNetwork.so.4 => not found
libQtCore.so.4 => not found

With johnnyw`s help i was able to install qt-4.6.3-lite (Size: 23.65 MB)
and get the latest skype up and running..

Here`s the download link

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Qt

So all the credit goes to johnnyw ..you wanna say thank you ,pop in #puppylinux chat room and you will have the chance to do it in person

hi stiginge,

It depends on your webcam and if it's linux compatible. As a test in 'menu/multimedia' try 'guvcview' and see if it picks up your camera (note if it doesn't work, close guvcview, unplug your webcam, then plug back in and restart guvcview)
If you've got an image in guvcview it should theoretically work in skype, however this isn't always the case! A workaround then is to start guvcview, then when your in a skype call, choose the 'share your screen..... share part of screen' option, and drag the box around the guvcview image.
this will share your webcam feed with the other person.

guvcview does work with the webcam, but skype doesn't. I'll try that solution next time I'm needing the skype video, see what happens. Cheers 666philb
