How to set up kde/konqueror as image viewer?
hi,
I had kde with Kubuntu and konqueror performed fabulously as an image viewer, when you click a photo icon it opened in the display window and had a few extra toolbar buttons, like one to fit the photo to the window or display original size, and a couple that were foreward and backward to scroll through the photos like slides, and one to rotate the photo. I have kde with puppy but konqueror doesn't have the extra buttons when you display a photo, it comes up in its actual size (which is far larger than the window) and you have to go back up to the directory to see the next photo. How do I get those extra features?

which version do you use?
we have KDE 3.4, 3.5.0, 3.5.1, 3.5.2 in different release-forms (Iso, ur_more).
3.5.2 is available for puppy2, and is "complete", it should support that (did not test yet).
In other versions, you could do this:
Drag gtksee in Rox-filer (/usr/local/bin/gtksee) to your desktop.
Then drag the picture from konqueror to the gtksee-icon, to watch it scaled with a small buttonbar for rotating/flipping.

you have megapup001.
you might try to enhance it manually using this howto:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=7394
3.5.1 is in megapup002, but it does not have the program you talk about.
3.5.1 was stripped down in size.
It might be only in Kde 3.5.2, which is currently only available for Puppy2 as megapup003:
http://www.puppyos.com/nfphpbb/viewtopic.php?t=71
I created it from a full slackware-KDE, as I was missing some things in the older versions.
There also is a Iso with KDE 3.5.0, but I don't know how complete the KDE in it is.

Im not sure it is the latest kde on my kubuntu, my version is more than a year out-of-date, I thought it was an embedded viewer that was providing the extra features, but I know nothing of how to make konqueror work with an embedded viewer.
My kubuntu is gone now due to a recent GRUB corruption - so I cant check it.

Here is a screenshot of the KDE-paintprograms/viewers in Megapup003:

And here of Megapup002 (running in the Enlightenment-Desktop):

You can access them via right-click on a picture in konqueror.
The only difference is Krita.
But as you can see, in konqueror no icons are available to change the size of the pictures.
This is just an option in the programs itself.
So I don't know, how it was done in Kubuntu unfortunately.

http://packages.debian.org/stable/graphics/kview
Install it with the debianinstaller, with some luck it needs nothing more.

I did all that and it installed ok but asked for some other library as a dependancy which I just installed as it asked - but it crashes when I open kview ?
# kview -v
Qt: 3.3.4
KDE: 3.4.1
KView: 3.3.2
# kview
kio (KMimeType): WARNING: KServiceType::offers : servicetype KImageViewer/Canvas not found

then I don't know... KDE-applications can be quite difficult to add, that is why I decided to release the megapup003-"Monster" with all together.
I would suggest to use it with Puppy2, but it might make sense to wait some days until the next version of Puppy2, as it switches to Kernel 2.6.
That hopefully solves some important errors in the current Alphaversion.
Myself, I use Puppy2 just for tests, for normal usage Puppy 1.
