Puppeee 4.4 Beta Testing
That probably means the egalax driver doesn't recognize the card. You can check the error log in /tmp/xerrs.log.
Instead, you can use the BootManager to load the 'hid-egalax' module.
Then configure the xorg.conf for the evtouch driver as explained here:
http://www.conan.de/touchscreen/evtouch.html (The evtouch drivers are already installed so you can skip the bits about driver installation)
If you get it to work, you can try the xinput-calibrator to calibrate it.

Puppeee only has drivers for the EeePC, so unless your machine has the same hardware as an Eee, this will create problems for you.nooby wrote:Jemimah, have patience now with a stubborn "newbie" like me.
I am trying to decide if I should use your Fluppy on my Acer D250 Netbook 10" Atom CPU and Intel graphic
or
if I should use this Puppeee 4.4 on it?
What is the pro et con for these options?
So you should run Fluppy, unless you want the faster kernel and are willing to tweak it for your machine.
Success, but not 100%jemimah wrote:That probably means the egalax driver doesn't recognize the card. You can check the error log in /tmp/xerrs.log.

The touchscreen is responding but not accurate. xinput_calibrator is continuously returning mis-click detected. I stopped after 20 attempts or so..
Any suggestions?
No problem, thanks for trying. I searched for some calibration file, but can't find any. Ubuntu doesn't work with Xorg.conf so I can't find anything in there as well.jemimah wrote:If you have a distro that works, you might be able to get the calibration settings from there. I don't have any experience with touchscreens yet, so there's not a lot I can tell you.
Without touchscreen it is already nice to have Puppeee 4.4.
If you have any other suggestions let me know and else we will just call it a day.
Beta5 has been posted.

jemimah wrote:Well cairo-dock will only run under beryl. I can make a dialog that will let you switch Beryl to RoxPanel though. You can switch it by hand by editing the beryl-start script.2lss wrote:I gave the latest beta a try today. The mouse still behaves the same as before, so I am downloading the kernel source to build a no-elantech kernel.
I also tried beryl + cairo dock. Surprisingly beryl performs great on my 900. The only downside is the python dependency. I am curious how hard it would be to port the simply beryl configuration tool into bacon. If its only objective changing beryl's config files then it may not be that hard.
Cairo dock seems a little cumbersome on such a small screen. Any thoughts on splitting beryl and cairo dock into separate categories? AKA beryl fall under 'change window manager' and the dock under 'change desktop'.
Also in the cairo-dock settings, you can make cairo-dock a lot more panel-like.
I think it would be easy to rewrite the Simple Configuration tool. Don't most people want the complex one though?
Using the new sfs for Beryl, I tried commenting out the line for cairo-dock in beryl-start. The dock doesn't start but neither does roxpanel. What else do I need to change to get openbox setup w/ Beryl as the wm?
Other than that no problems with the new beta.
Here's how I start it with openbox:
I'm interested in feedback regarding Frisbee the successor of Pwireless2. Is it working ok?
Code: Select all
rox -B /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/OpenboxPanel&
trayclock&

You'll also need this pet to fix gnumeric in beta 5: http://puppeee.com/files/pet/gnumeric-fix-beta5.pet
Ok, I missed autostart.sh. I plugged the above into beryl-start and restarted X. The panel is working however the desktop icons are still missing. Any ideas?jemimah wrote:Here's how I start it with openbox:

I gave Frisbee a try but unfortunately dhcp failed when connecting to my home network (using open and shared). I'm heading out of town for a few days so I will try it on some other networks.
Here is the log.

Here is a script that collects and tars all the files related to networking.
Also here's the old version of wpa_supplicant so you can see if that's the culprit.

A new fix for frisbee is available. I think this should sort everything out.

If not, I figured out how to patch dhcpcd to do what I want, so the next release will have a lot less complexity.

Just some feedback-
Absolutely solid on my 701sdx with sd card frugal install.
Has nearly replaced my intel i5 tower for day to day usage (i'm not sure its quite up to hd video editing XD)
I had scratchy sound card issues with puppeee1 but none with this release!
Thanks for an awesome distro
Only problem I have had on all my pc's is using the scripts in the boot folder to make the card/stick bootable - it never works windows or linux. The boot installer in the puppy menu works ok though.

The installer works with no errors in windows or linux, the file is written and the partition is flagged bootable but it just won't boot. I get no messages about why, its just as if i've plugged in a plain drive. I have tried a few different flash sticks but its the same. Its ok though, bootflash worked fine

Rox panel can be turned off by commenting it out in /etc/xdg/openbox/autostart.sh.
