The smaller the puppy sfs, the less it occupies RAM if I understand well.
But yes it depends on the way the installation is done (pupmode)

So reducing the puppy sfs by removing applications could maybe be of a benefit.
Or simply force Puppy to not load the .sfs to RAM...

In a flash install that option can be selected. I had to manually patch my frugal HDD install to stop it from loading.
Correct, but I think this is on the expense of performance.
I find that my performance suffers more when I become "memory bound", than from reading from the HDD. I'd rather have the spare RAM for running programs.

Yes, although there are only a few things big enough to be really worth removing - seamonkey, ffmpeg and the media player if you don't need them, maybe abiword and gnumeric...
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

Here is something you could try. No CD burner needed.
Get SFS edit.

Go to /root/.packages/ and find the directory for built in pets.
pick the one you want to remove and print out the files listed.
Then using SFSedit, open the SFS file and delete those files.
Save the revised SFS file replacing the original.
Reboot.

Be sure to make a backup of the original SFS first.

Thanks for the comments guys! Unfortunately I had to move the wireless card to a different computer so I have no use for Puppy on it for now. :/ But when I get around to buying a new wireless card I'll probably start using Puppy again.

Wireless cards are very cheap these days. However, if you're buying one specifically for this machine, do a little research and make sure it's one of the well supported under Linux (and Puppy).

I don't if there is a thread which catalogs cards known to work, or not... However, you could start one when you get ready to buy. Make sure that you specify desktop or laptop (I don't see that you said, in this thread).

In Forum index » Advanced Topics » Hardware » Networking » Wireless there is a thread about cards that work.
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

Well, I tried using editSFS and the list of files in /root/.packages/Buitin_files for abiword.
The list is evidently incomplete as abiword still showed up in the menu and ran when clicked on.
I thought the file list for abiword was supposed to contain ALL the directory/files associated with the application.

For someone wanting to do away with abiword and use the word processor in Open Office or libreoffice I think the Builtin_files application directory should contain ALL the files one would have to remove.
