CUPS problem - "waiting for localhost"
CUPS problem - "waiting for localhost"
When i started puppy form CDROM, i added my printers, using seamonkey, typing: http://localhost:631.
I get access to http://localhost:631/printers
No problems.
I saved a personal pupsave.3fs. And started puppy again.
I opened my default browser seamonkey 2.0.11 and typed: http://localhost:631
The CUPS welcome page comes up.
But now, when I click "Add Printer" or any other button, i get the message "Waiting for localhost...". And nothing happens.
I cannot add another printer or kill jobs by using seamonkey.
I typed in my shell: # cups-config --version
and got: 1.3.11
I typed again: # /etc/rc.d/init.d/cups status
and got: cups: scheduler is running.
And i can kill printer-jobs using #lpstat -t
and #lprm
So my cups works fine.
But what is the reason for this bug. How come that i have no access to http://localhost:631/printers after using a personal pupsave.3fs?

I repeated your situation in Wary - booted off the Live CD, installed a printer, made a warysave.3fs file, rebooted, checked the printer. Everything worked fine.
I suspect that the problem is with your Seamonkey, not CUPS. In Seamonkey, go to Edit > Preferences > Privacy and Security. Hit the Clear Now button. Restart Seamonkey and open the CUPS web interface again.

I tried what you've suggested. But the same effect: I opened my default browser seamonkey 2.0.11 and typed: http://localhost:631I suspect that the problem is with your Seamonkey, not CUPS. What printers did you install? Maybe something went wrong with their installation and that's causing the problem.
Go into the folder /etc/cups and delete the file printers.conf.
If that doesn't help, try reinstalling CUPS 1.3.11 from here. Just install Items 1,2 and 5.
If nothing helps, you may have to delete your warysave.3fs file and start a new one.

I've installed the printers several times. I think they are correct installed. Both are HP laser printers. The one of them is an old network printer 8100, and the other is an old 4L at /dev/lp0. They did work fine under Puppy 4.3.1.
I deleted the /etc/cups/printer.conf and started /etc/rc.d/init.d/cups again.
I reinstalled CUPS 1.3.11 from there, just items 1, 2 and 5.
I deleted my warysave.3fs and started a new one.
All that didn't help. And i found out, that i cannot print. My printer is disabled by the system when i use a warysave.3fs file. Suspect.
I googled in Internet "waiting for localhost linux" and found out that there could be a bug in the scripts. But if you are sure everything worked fine using warysave.3fs, then there cannot be a bug. So i don't know what to do. I need this warysave.3fs file because of an openoffice.sfs. But otherwise everything works fine without this warysave.3fs ...

Which wary-puppy were you using? I suppose, the same as me.I repeated your situation in Wary - booted off the Live CD, installed a printer, made a warysave.3fs file, rebooted, checked the printer. Everything worked fine.

I can confirm that when the go-oo-3.2-sfs4.sfs is added to Wary, CUPS will hang up. I suspect that this occurs because the go-oo package was built in a Puppy 4.3.1 environment which uses an old version of CUPS. It is not compatible with the newer CUPS in Quirky/Wary/Lupu.
However, LibreOffice does work with CUPS in Wary.

I have tha same problem `waiting for localhost`...
Running puppy with no save file (pfix=ram) and using the pet you provide here (my printer is a Samsung ML 1640) I can print successfully the test page.
But with my savefile I can't get any CUPS interface web page except the home.
I have 3 sfs loaded on bootup (GIMP, devx and another) but removing them does not solve the problem.
Any tip? (except delete your savefile and start a new one... )

Some command I can give to see why the server hangs?
