I've done a frugal install of 511 and on first boot it went straight
to the desktop.
I configured the network, then ran the puppy universal installer and
did a frugal install to sda1.
I ran grub4dos,then rebooted and had the save file go to /puppy511 on sda1.
I renamed the fatdog 510 devx file and also increased the size of my
save file by 512mb,then rebooted.

I booted the live cd "fatdog nomodeset pfix=vesa, ram".
I configured the network then ran the universal installer and did a
frugal install.
I downloaded and installed the nvidia-260.19.21-for-510-only.pet, and
restarted x.
I then ran grub4dos and rebooted having the save file
go to puppy511 on sdb3.
I renamed the fd64-devx_510.sfs to fd64-devx_511.sfs and used the
configure startup of puppy wizard to have it loaded the next bootup.

Got this installed on my Acer eMachines netbook - Atom N450, 1GB RAM. Working very beautifully - Xorg, wifi, sound, all works great. I'm a very happy man.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.

SD card driver for my fellow M350 owners. The card reader is ENE, driver is already in staging in 2.6.36 and will be released on 2.6.37 (this is according to Ubuntu guy who helped to provide the kernel module source).
Meanwhile, you can use this on 511.
cheers!

minor problems
@Kirk, Check your PM
Booted FATDOG64-511 LiveCD. I opened a text file for edit via the filemanager; namely /root/my-documents/console.log.txt. This opened in Geany. Next, I tried to open a 2nd file using its "absolute path" (namely /mnt/sda1/save-console.log.txt). This is done within the Geany window, clicking File>Open>fill-in location entry with the path-filename.
Also, tested your SAMBA 3.5.6 PET for consistency. Instructions for sharing files with LAN user from FATDOG are still consistent with this release. I have NOT had ANY issues with your SAMBA PET use of FATDOG. You may want to add this to the FATDOG PPM now. (I expect to produce a Guide for users who might want to use FATDOG as their network's domain controller to avoid having to pay vendors thousands of dollars for this feature at the end of this month...All things considered.
Here's what the system looks like with LIveCD running and sharing 3 folders with users constantly writing to it..
Hope this helps

Once a while, when shutting down, I get the message "Disabling Interrupt #19" and the laptop will freeze, requiring a hard poweroff (pressing the power button 4 seconds or more). Looking at /proc/interrupts, IRQ 19 corresponds to my UHCI/EHCI usb controller, and true enough, these happens when I have been plugging something to the usb port (wireless mouse, usb harddisk, usb flash, etc) - but not every time. Sometimes it shut down properly.
Google says the problem is caused by spurious interrupts, or unhandled interrupts - can be anything from bad hardware (suggestion is to replace PCI card, move PCI card to another slot, or to disable onboard sound if the IRQ is hooked to onboard sounds etc), or can be because of bad driver. In my case, it's a laptop, so nothing can be moved or replaced, and it works fine with fd64-500 using the previous kernel, so I suspect something is a bit touchy in the USB driver of this kernel. This happens not only on my usual machine, it also happens in the M350 netbook (Atom N450-based).
Has anyone else encountered similar issue, and got any clue to stop this from happening?

where can LiveCD write
Is it documented somewhere which folders will be saved at the end of a session so that they will be restored upon LiveCD reboot?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
The official documentation is here http://puppylinux.com/multi-puppy.htm But it's rather old, and rather inaccurate as of now.
Another way is to look at the code - line 204 in /etc/rc.d/functions4puppy says that it will save everything except /tmp, /proc, /sys, /var, /initrd and /mnt.
Hope that helps.

This is the dnsmasq pet for those who needs it. No menu - this pet only contains dnsmasq binary (and a man page).

Folders over LIveCD reboot
My question of saving has to do with folders I want to set for LiveCD use that I consider to be "outside of" the delivered Puppy Linux fs. (for example "/Downloads").jamesbond wrote:... that it will save everything except /tmp, /proc, /sys, /var, /initrd and /mnt. ...
Thanks JamesBond. This is a significant contribution, I think, to FATDOG64.jamesbond wrote:This is the dnsmasq pet for those who needs it. ...
Thank you very much!
Thanks JamesBond
Results: My personal testing shows: FATDOG LiveDVD reboots will
Scenario: Create a /home folder in every folder on the root FATDOG filesytem. Reboot insuring to "Save to CD" the session additions and changes. Upon, reboot look at the resulting filesystem for the /home folders added before reboot.jamesbond wrote:The official documentation is here http://puppylinux.com/multi-puppy.htm But it's rather old, and rather inaccurate as of now.gcmartin wrote:Is it documented somewhere which folders will be saved at the end of a session so that they will be restored upon LiveCD reboot?

- NOT Save ANY new folder created on root (eg /home)
- Save any folder created in /root, /lib, and /usr

Missing in action
BTW: Anyone seen Kirk. If he went to the CES, lets hope he brings us some "doggy bones" back.
Yep, been out of town, but not CES.
Gcmartin, if that file system question is when using a save file, then everything should be saved except in /tmp and anything on a file system that's mounted on /.
PS: James says booting with the kernel option noirqdebug takes care of the "Disabling Interrupt #19" problem he was having.

Did find the same thing. Maybe I'm missing howto save /home
Welcome back! Didn't make CES?. We were hoping you were somewhere have some Geeky fun.
Here's what I see before shutdown"home" and "Downloads" do NOT survive over session save, reboot of LiveCD
Its not a problem. I just wanted to know the rules and where supporting documentation exist.
Hope this helps.
My LiveDVD is not showing anything EXCEPT what I share in the post. I may be doing something wrong, but for example, I create a /home folder and its not there when I reboot. (tried /Downloads also).kirk wrote:...
