Making a new Puplet with Woof...

#1 Post by starhawk »

So I got it in my head to make my own Puplet  I know, I'm only a few weeks in...

...tried to do the CD Remaster route and it didn't go right  in the infamous words of C-3PO, "How typical!"

So now I'm working with Woof. I must say, the GUI helps. I want to use packages from Ubuntu Karmic, but I don't understand what to do when it says that I need to "configure packages manually"... how do I do this within Woof?

I'm sure it's easy... I just need to know how

Pardon the double-post, but I forgot to mention that I've looked thoroughly through the documentation that I can find... and it doesn't seem to cover this.

Maybe you can get some clues from micko01's instructions "how to woof up an spup":

Ah. :? I see I was doing /something/ right... unfortunately, when I manually edited like that, I broke Woof_GUI. Maybe I was editing the wrong file... they look very similar to me, I must confess

Lemme try this again and I'll post the results of my meddling here in a bit.

Decided to update the local db files... about two minutes after my last post :? dang this thing takes its time.

Now I need to go outside and gather kindling. Being poor in NC means that it's about time to get the woodstove going for the night (it's cold outside!).

I'll be back in a bit

Decided to add spup's unofficial pet repository as well.

BTW, is there a repository containing a pet of OpenOffice? I don't yet have a handle on manually adding pets to this thing, and I'd really like to avoid breaking Woof again if I can.

Gaah... Woof didn't build the package-specs file for SPup's unofficial packages, so it won't incorporate those pets. So I get to rebuild /all/ of the databases and *hope* that it makes it this time, after altering the Pet-Repositories index file.

I miss QBASIC *sigh*

EDIT: I'd say that the above actually worked as expected, but then I'd be lying. Anybody around here know how to make (or can send me) the following file?

Code: Select all

DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS-puppy-spup
or am I missing something...?

I've never played with Woof, so can't help with this, sorry!
Maybe you'd need to get in touch with somebody in the "Puppy Derivatives"
subforum - plenty of expertise around there.

Dern it, I've gone through that thread too.

OK, I'll post in Puppy Derivatives and put a trackback link to this thread.
