Why does GParted show my hd is locked?

#1 Post by dk60902 »

Hello,

I'm attempting to install Puppy 5.2 on my desktop (Dell Optiplex Pent 4, 512 MB RAM). I'm following directions on the manual on the puppylinux.org website to partition the HD using GPart.

When I open GPart, my hard drive is shown as /dev/sda1 under the partition column. There is a lock icon next to it. I am unable to click on the resize/move button. Does the lock icon indicate that the HD cannot be partitioned? Otherwise, how do I unlock the HD?

Please let me know if there is any other information that I can give to help provide an answer.

Thanks for any help.

Read here. Note the use of "puppy pfix=ram" to free up the hard drive.

Thx for your help. With this, I was able to partition the HD and have a successful frugal installation.
