l0wt3ch, nooby, maxpro4u, sinc... Thanks!
(sinc: sorry, no Amarok - Mplayer will play anything )
(maxpro4u: gtkam, maybe back in the next version.
Old gtkam: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ackages-4/)
One version to go. LibreOffice is final now, waiting for Firefox final.

Sorry me being so naive.
so this Mijnpup is more modern than Lupu511?
It can do everything that lupu 520 can? I mean use same repos? Same pets for 520?
That would be very good because 520 totally fail to boot on my Acer D250 while your MijnPup boots each time have never failed once as I remember.
Can it do IceWM? Use Zigberts pwidget analog clock and so on?
Audacity?
Puppy Studio fails to boot too. Can I borrow the prgrams form Studio and use them in MijnPup instead? Music progs?

Hi Martin,
I really like your MijnPup project, the clean looks and the choices you have made. Being based on Puppy 5.2 further augments the possibilties.
I guess you've become accustomed to crazy questions by now
Here's mine :
Would it be possible to make a "barebones" MijnPup? By that I mean 100% MijnPup minus LibreOffice minus Firefox!
Many of us are now installing the browser of our choice outside of the save file, which has several advantages.
Same for the Office app. It is often installed as an SFS or statically on mnt/home or by using the package from PortableLinuxApps
I am asking this, because I have no remaster skills..
This "barebones" would be close to perfect in my view and, as a bonus, a much smaller download. (100-150MB?)
I have a feeling many users would be interested in this.

Bert is right. But to be complete to have both would make both us and you happy. You could have the bigger one as you prefer it and the small one is a users choice puppy. You describe how one make use of sfs and placing them on HDD in Frugal install and so on.
I trust many would like such a puppy.

It's not called "Mijnpup" ("My pup" in Dutch) for nothing
Martin made it the way he likes it, and of course he has every right not to be interested in another version...
After hours of struggling I succeeded in a remaster, a bootable 115MB ISO, with LibreOffice and Firefox removed. ( and some small apps, like pfind, pfilesearch, remove_builtin,... added back)
I would happily share it, but it has some small but annoying errors...
Booting time is back to normal though.
Including a heavy-weight like LibreOffice in a pup is not a good design decision IMHO, especially given the alternative possibilities I linked to in my post above.
But there's a lot to like in Mijnpup !
I might try remastering again, but can't promise anything

I forgot to mention this:
Martin made it easy to remove Firefox. It can be uninstalled in PPM (Puppy Package manager)
In a way it looks like LibreOffice is easy to uninstall too: it is installed in /opt.
Removing the directory 'LibreOffice' from /opt will make it disappear, but unfortunatily it will still get loaded, when running from live-cd or as a frugal install I think...

Hi Bert,
Remastering Puppy is not difficult. To make a "diet" Mijnpup:
Start Mijnpup with pfix=ram.
Then, delete:
/opt/libreoffice
/lib/firefox
Then: Menu -> Setup -> Remaster Puppy Live-CD
Answer the questions, wait a few minutes and a smaller Mijnpup.iso is there.
(But... after remastering this version without a browser and without office: you've got Puppy 52 Why not use Puppy?)
(Dutch: druk hier Bert, daarom weinig antwoorden van mij. En mijn Engels is ook hopeloos. Groeten daar in Vlaanderen. Kunnen jullie het snel eens worden met de Walen? Wij Hollanders kunnen moeilijk doen, maar jullie kunnen er ook wat van.
Edit: zie nu dat het remasteren je al gelukt was... )

I don't know a word of Dutch.
puppymartin so one have puppy 5.2 back. ohh had no idea.
Okay good to know. The surprising thing is that Mijnpup did not need nosmp it just booted again and again while the standard lupu 520 needs nosmp to boot.
So something need to be different? Or am I mixing something up getting it wrong? I look in menu.lst again
title mijnpup Without Wine 1024x768 yes openbox
rootnoverify (hd0,2)
kernel /mijnpup/vmlinuz pmedia=scsihd psubdir=mijnpup i915.modeset=1 pfix=fsck
initrd /mijnpup/initrd.gz
nope no need for nosmp there so your mijnpup sure is different from the usual 520

Thanks a lot Martin for finding the time to reply. Can't believe remastering can be this easy! I've been reading many forum threads about it, downloading tutorials and some scripts and it proved to be a delicate operation. I tried many times and always something went wrong and when I finally succeeded, the new iso had some little errors in it!puppymartin wrote:Hi Bert,

Will try your method later today.
Not exactly Puppy 5.2...look at what you've removed from 5.2 to arrive at Mijnpup. I am using Lucid 5.2 as my daily OS now, but want your cleaned and simplified environment to install on the box of someone I love, who gets totally confused by the 'busy' and 'techie' 5.2 desktop and menu.(But... after remastering this version without a browser and without office: you've got Puppy 52 Why not use Puppy?)

Sorry, no XBMC. It is too much for Mijnpup.
Install: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 149#489589
nooby:
The only boot difference between Mijnpup and Puppy 52 is the xorgwizard that starts before X/Openbox is started. (the screen where you set your monitor resolution.)

@puppymartin, thanks again for all your responses and staying updated on this project. I do have another question. Firefox updates automatically is there a way to have libreoffice update automatically when they come out with new updates. For me the office suite and browser are the most used applications on my computer and it would be awesome if they were able to update by themselves without having to randomly check if there is a new version and then download and unpack it and everything... just automated ya know? Thanks again.

No automatic updates in this version of LibreOffice.
See: http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss@doc ... 01288.html
See: http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss@doc ... 01288.html
Mac and Windows should have auto-updaters, Linux should have an
auto-updater available only when installed from source (if it is
practical), otherwise updates should be handled by the distros package
management system.

so, I don't really understand what the above means. how was this version installed. Did you install it from a .deb? so if a person were to go to their website and install the tar.gz then it would include the automatic updates? thanks for clarifying the tech speak for me. b/c if thats all it takes i can replace the files in /opt with new ones that will update. thanks again, every time thank you.
Hello:puppymartin wrote: Remove apps:

I installed Remove apps in Puppy Lucid 5.2, and used it to remove the Abiword and gnumeric. It worked fine and removed the two packages. However, it left the Doc and help files along with the menu items pointing to these.
How can one remove these as well?
Thanks in advance!
