Puppy On Laptops
Hi all,
I've installed Lupu 5.11 on a HP compaq nc6000 with 512mb/1.7Ghz/intel ICH4 soundcard/2200BG wifi/40Gb HDD.
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quic ... 94_na.html
I did a full install with dual boot of Windows 7. Installed first go without any problems during the install - easier than Windows as far as hardware drivers are concerned. Almost too easy.
First Linux distro I've used that didn't have issues with the sound config and wireless worked out of the box. Allocates about 300Mb of the 512Mb ram with Chrome/skype/vlc running.
Also goes like a steamtrain and boots and runs faster than the other Dell D820/2x2.0Ghz/2Gb/80Gb hdd with XP SP2.
Nice work

Hello mclien
the more details you can provide, the better.
I will then add your machines to the wiki http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PuppyOnLaptops

Just add details in this thread of your machines and what works (or does not work),mclien wrote:Just stumbled over this thread.
Do you like to edit it myself >(then how)
or do you collect things from this thread and edit the page yourself?
(have 2 Laptops. one works, one only partial;in different ways).

IBM Thinkpad T43
OK here is my "newest" PC.
IBM Thinkpad T43:
Pentium M 1.8 GHz
TFT 1400x1050
CD Burner/ DVD reader combo drive
RAM 2GB
WiFi
eth0 with RJ45
running Lupu 520, installed on HD, with no Problems at all.
I did a FULL install (made an extra partition with gpartet.
Tested both Network devices, working perfect with the "Simple Network Setup"
addition: even touchpad and trckpoint at once work fine!
It had an dual boot with winXP and Debian 5.0 Lenny already, so I used this fantastic feature from the installer to just edit the existing grub menu.lst !
I have a "§$%&/ Sony Vaio Notebook sort of work in progress. Can give that status too, if thats also interesting

Hello mclien
Add it to another post and i will edit the wiki to point at both of your posts.
If you could be so kind, would you edit your above post
and indicate whether that is a FULL or FRUGAL install you have done.
Thanks

I hope this kind of post is permitted here? If not my apologies.
My dad has a laptop that he says he will give me when it no longer can support Windows 2000 Pro, so I plan on putting Wary on it since it is for older systems. (It has a 800mhz processor and 512MB RAM that is dying). So I have a couple questions:
- Does Wary have support for touchpads; or really, since it is an IBM Thinkpad, eraserheads?
- Does Wary supposed wireless?
If not, can anyone offer up some suggestions as to what would be best the run, or if I should even try to create my own Puplet for my own needs, that would be nice.

Hello DM was on fire!
You could always take a look at the IBM/Thinkpad links in the wiki: http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PuppyOnLaptops
and see what people have running on them.
They are links to posts in this thread, but it's aim is to make it easier to find what you are looking for.
Note:
They are listed under both IBM and Thinkpad
Hope this helps

OK here comes a IMHO definitely NO-GO from sony:
Model: VPC-F12A4E (sort of special model only for one special electronic discounter in germany)
specs:
Intel Core i3 350M / 2.26 GHz (Dual-Core)
RAM 4GB
DVD±RW
500 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
touchpad (synaptic)
41.6 cm (16.4") TFT, 1600 x 900 (WXGA++)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
I tried several debin drivates (Lenny, Squeeze, aptosid)
and two puplets: lupu 520 and MediaPup1-0a, and the results:
screen resolution:
-wrong, 1600x900 not selectable ( both)
sound (ear):
-lupu: works fine,
-media: nothing
sound (speaker):
-lupu: working (nearly silent, ear on speaker)
-media: nothing
touchpad:
-lupu: no, (no compatible touchpad found)
-Media: yes
network (RJ45):
-lupu YES (but sky2 driver),
-Media: finds wrong eth0 (ohci 1394, firewire?)
etwork (WiFi):
-lupu: net detected, but not configureable
-Media: nothing
So: don't buy any sony crap is my statement!

At racepres. Loved it. I get IFC onion news on big screen tv.
My Wolfe Pendrive on Acer Aspire One ZG5 (160 gig sata version)
2 gig Sandisk Cruzer Pendrive with U3 software removed.
Fat32 Partition
Mywolfe installed via unetbootin
puppy pmedia=usbflash to boot
Tap does not work on this unit though when plugged into my EEEPCs it does.
Flash Works.
Sound works.
Wireless and land line works.
Webcam and Mic works in Skype.
I installed grub4dos to take the place of unetbootin bootlader. Works good.
Run a 512MB ext2 save file on pendrive. Runs fast. Runs good.

Late response, my apologies, but thank you CatDude. Looking at the link on the Wiki (truth be told I had no clue this existed; I feel quite stupid), the Thinkpad I will be inheriting is not on there, but atleast knowing older Puppies works fine with eraserheads gives me hope. Thank you again!
When I do my experiments, I promise I will post.

Thinkpad X22
384 MB Ram
800 Mhz P111
Broadcom wireless card added on minipci
Puppy versions I have run successfully
4.1
4.2.1
4.3
Browserlinux
Lupu
All ran fine with no problems setting up. Screen brightness buttons and the the little light in the top of the screen housing all work, I think these are all hardware controlled anyway.
Trackpoint (eraserhead) works on all installations I have tried and is set up on boot.
All in all, no problems to report.

Here's one for ya CatDude!
Got a Compaq cq61, 2+gigCPU, 2GRam, Hard dive took a dump..
I'm booting Frugal, from the micro sd card in the sprint/sierra gprs modem!
Lupu 5.20. Everything works so far. Internet connects via ethernet, wireless, or the sprint pcs Modem! Pretty peppy! I am posting this on it now.. using wireless cause sprint service is about the very worst I ever seen.... I'm positive dial-up is twice as Fast.... Seriously.
RP
Note: before I give this CQ61 back to it's owner.
For some reason the micro sd card in the sierra[Sprint] gprs modem is Not Found at Boot, Unless, the ac power adapter is Disconnected!
Tried it numerous times... with ac adapter micro sd Not Found, Without Adapter, micro sd card [puppy install] Found!
Strange, but That's what works for me! And regular USB flash drive is found Regardless!
