What web browser are you using?yarddog wrote:I copied three pages of text from web and saved as abiword doc, reopened okbigpup wrote:Abiword problem:
This may be the problem.
I just made a document with Abiword that has text that I copied from a web page and pasted into the document. Just plain text.
Everything looked good.
Saved document.
Will not reopen.
saved same three pages of text as rich text format (rtf), reopened ok
saved same three pages of text as microsoft doc, reopened ok
so far version 2.90 has worked well for me

I am using Iron.
I just tried a document with text copied from web page and it will not reopen.
I am starting to think Iron browser is causing this.
Just tried with Firefox browser.
Copied text, pasted into document, saved, and reopened. Worked OK.
Could it really be that simple?
The Iron web browser putting something in the copied text to mess up Abiword.

Well we do have PPM if we manage to miss something.playdayz wrote:We should have a lottery to see how many times zigbert will update something before we release Lucid 5.2.1
Doesn't work on either machine - brings up the dialogue for selecting drive but on hitting Okay it never brings up the main window. Possibly a dodgy pet with a mismatch in file structure between Slackware and what we're using?playdayz wrote:Thanks Jades. Perhaps you could try the gparted-0.8.0 I posted above on this page and see if it works on the K6. It might because it is a i486 from slackware.
Luci 252 is running very nicely on the Pentium D machine. I had to run ALSA Wizard again before sound would work but that was probably due to the problem we were having on 250. After doing that, sound has been retained after every subsequent boot. The save file originated in Luci 237 and has been through several upgrades without any major problems that I can recall.
As for the K6, Luci 252 is still throwing kernel panics on the 'Switch Root' stage on a LiveCD pfix=ram boot and I've decided that on that machine I'm going to stick with 511 as the main install on that and experiment with newer pets on a Frugal of 511. In the near future I'll probably give Wary a go on it as older machines are the target of that Puppy version anyway.
Edit: Clarified that sound has worked over boots after I ran ALSA Wizard on the pupsave that had been upgraded to Luci 250 earlier and is now in use with Luci 252.

appears that your iron browser is the culprit if firefox and seamonkey work ok

Duplicatfinder, pupsaveconfig
Though I understand the wish not to change too much, I was always wondering why we did not see the duplicatfinder in de Puppies anymore, very small useful, not only for me.
Maybe for the PPM ?
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 30d842be91
Furthermore I am surprised that so many forumers do not seem to know Shino's "pupsaveconfig", while it is already included in several Puppies.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=60678
Gives you, amongst others, -not to- save or -only now- etc.
(Maybe its also done by Radky's ?)

The included midori is for internal use only. iI does not have ssl and so is not appropriate for web browsing. Please use Quickpet to install a full-strength browser.May be add a .desktop for Midori which is include in .iso but not in puppy menu.

http://abisource.com/Our latest stable release is version 2.8.6. It's available for a number of languages and operating systems. Release Notes, Changelog, Download.
Our latest development release is version 2.9.0. Development releases are aimed at developers, or people willing to test unstable software. They should not be used in a production environment.

Fine then, but can you answer me one thing, whats unstable about it?, its not like its a totally new alpha 1 word processor, I've been using it for a few days without a single glitch. I guess that's why we have testers on here, Oh yeah its ten times more stable than the abiword we used in 4.2. and that was a stable branch.playdayz wrote:http://abisource.com/Our latest stable release is version 2.8.6. This is now in PPM, as is an improved Python that smil99 made, to which I added libpython.Openshot-1.3 is out and it works great in luci252 after I made a couple of modifications to some of the .py files. This new pet does not contain any of the multimedia libs as in openshot-1.2.2 since luci252 has newer ones (from natty). Also, there were two extra python modules needed, PIL and httplib2, and I have added them to the python2.6.
3D titles also works if you have Blender256 (or newer) installed.
Anyway, check it out here:

yes that's true, but It does make more sense to use a version of abiword that is compiled with same Goffice and gsf than not. If he uses the newer Gnumeric, Goffice, Gsf, then really without doubt he should use the matching Abiword, unless there are some hidden faults, which to this point has been Zero.Lobster wrote:Excellent work from smil99This is now in PPM, as is an improved Python that smil99 made

Also its a shame that other things I compiled for luci never made it in, like evince which totally kills epdfview, its much quicker, renders better and opens other formats. Or like the metacity WDM pet I made, there are thousands of excellent themes for it and does not compare to any other window decorations manage. Sure it still needs a panel, but luci already has a good panel.

Hi guys.
I use spreadsheets (though not Gnumeric), but despite I think Lobster does not - the thread at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=65063 may perhaps be important to some.
I imagine that Lobster is a sardine brain surgeon and ttuuxxx's next position may be equally impressive - please do not tell me the truth if it transpires I am mistaken.
My regards

Sardines have brains? News to me. I might have to stop eating them, if I hear they are sentient beings (allegedly) . . .
Barry has suggested his cut down Transmission might work in other Puppys
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02170
I have been using Transmission quite a lot
and find only one Transmission at a time can be downloaded
Using simultaneous download/uploads quickly fills up my personal storage file,
despite using all the settings to change the temp files etc to hard disk.
I still have not been able to locate the temp files that Transmission is filling

Your work is highly valued and we need that sharp intellect. You keep playdayz fired up. He needs that, even if he will not admit it.
I hope you are at least putting the stuff you have done in the Additional Software section of the forum.
One question I have. Is any version of Puppy Linux truly 100% bug free?.
I would say that Lucid (Luci) is the closest to achieving that goal!
Anything can be put into PPM with no harm done. If it is untested just say so.
Oh, I forgot some of that stuff in PPM is Beta versions.
ttuuxxx,
Please keep interest in Lucid Puppy!
Before I get you fired up. Clasic Pup 2.14X Rocks!! It fills a very needed place in Puppy Linux.
I quote from the beginning of this topic.
This is a Feature Freeze, so please feel free to suggest features, but know that they will probably not make it. EXCEPT, please suggest backgrounds and gtk themes if you have any favorites, in Puppy or outside of Puppy.
Luci-252 is the most leading-edge Lucid ever.
