Spanish
Spanish
This thread is meant to organize all the people that want to participate translating to Spanish (As generic as we can do it)
I propose that we localize for the locale [es_ES]. If we are picky at some point and for very specific things we could add regional localizations [es_MX], [es_AR], etc.
You don't need any technical background as other developers will provide the files to translate.
Other threads in this forum will discuss tools that may simplify the translation process.
I'd prefer if we keep this thread in English as some of the topics we will discuss may be of interest to other localization efforts.

Spanish
Hi Pups
Here is the page to get the translation of Abiword for Spanish
http://www.abisource.com/dev/strings/es-ES.po
The notes indicate that it is 99% translated in Spanish.
Is this the type of information that is needed/desired either to speed up the process, or to demonstrate how to do it?

Yep. this is exactly the kind of information that we want to discuss here and add to a wiki page.
I would sugest someone else to maintain a wiki page with this links so they don't get lost in the thread.

I'll be happy to proofread ...
"es_ES = Spanish_Spain" or Castilian which is what I was brought up with.
Living in the US has shown me how different it can be to latin-american spanish
Cheers

I would like to lend my support
I would like to lend my support to this cause. I speak Castilian and, though I am sure there are a lot of dissenters out there, I think Castilian should be the primary focus. Spain already has a thriving opensource community, to the point where Andalucia has it's own distribution:

I can start a Spanish package repository at PuppyLite if you would like.

I want to help too :D
Let me know what can I do.
still small
This localization section is still small, so you can find here most of what have been done translating Puppy. Or do a search for, say, "Spanish".
Puppy user since Oct 2004. Want FreeOffice? [url=http://puppylinux.info/topic/freeoffice-2012-sfs]Get the sfs (English only)[/url].
How about making an es_LA localization?
Posting locale files for all the software included in puppy will keep us informed. So go search, I will search too
It would be good if we make this as an .sfs addon, then it'll be used no matter what puppy version we are using. Obviously making 2 packs, one for Puppy 1.x.x and another for Puppy 2.x.x
And anyone has tryed xfce4 dotpup with xfce-4.2.3.2-locale.pup, and setting LANG variable to es_xx through the setup menu? it works fine and maybe is a beginning for castilian/spanish Puppy.

I'm sure there are many pro's and con's regarding Castillian vs Latin American, however having two Spanish varieties may be too divisive for Spanish Puppy at this point. I'm in favor of using Spanish that approaches a non-regional Spanish that would be generally understood by most Spanish speakers, and if it wasn't easily understood, then readers could consult the REA. I'm in favor of Spanish translators and readers deferring to the REA much as English writers and readers defer to the Oxford English Dictionary as a central authority.
It seems to me that in both Spanish and English the use of 'educated or formal' language, and the avoidance of regionalisms, ideoms (figures of speech), and slang produces a nearly non-regional language.

Apparently there are more people interested in this project, but we are not organized yet, and if we continue this way we will not manage to advance in this. So, last monday I began to translate part of the software that not supports files .mo, they are the majority of utilities and wizards. Also, I'm looking for .mo files for the software included in Puppy 2.11(maybe 2.12), till now I have the translations for: Gaim, Leafpad, Xdialog, Make, gcc-3.3, gcc-3.4, xmms and the spanish version of firefox 2.0, though I do not know if I should include firefox, or only add the language packages for Seamokey. I would like that you suggest names for the icons of the pinboard, I have many doubts with this. (trash=Papelera de reciclaje/Basura?; home=home?/inicio?/etc)
If everything is ok I will have a .sfs for testing at the weekend.
What is absent now is to translate the documentation, work with the wiki and the add locales for the rest of applications.
Thanks and regards.

More mo files
Hi:
I have also the mo files for geany, gqview, gftp , gslapt, slapt-get, LinNeighborHood, sweep and xfe.
I have downloaded mtpaint, but it's not working, the same as inkscapelite (but I rememeber inkscape did work)
wow, I can upload them here and you can include it in your sfs
