The Official Release of Lucid 5.25 (Lucid Five Twenty-Five)
udev 124
Is there any reason that luci is still using udev 124?
Wary is using 151 and Ubuntu 161+.
I think that some of the problems particularly the ones related to sound may be because of the archaic udev version.

Was this FS issue addressed
Hi Playdayz and the development team on this thread. Great work as you continue improving things. I saw this and was wondering if it may have already been address in 256 or earlier.
Was the 5.x PUI problem mentioned here ever addressed?
Or, will latest PUP use Grub4DOS as in the WARY LiveCD to overcome the PUI issue via LiveCD boot?
Hope this helps

Thanks To All
Thanks rcrsn51. I really don't like full install or even frugal for that matter... I use one HD for all various puppy versions, boot always from a CD for the version I want to use and just have the personal file on the HD.
bigpup: Agree... it would be nice to have a save file that self-adjusts its size... no matter what type install. Oh... haven't used Windows for over a year now... for nothing!
smokey01: Like I mentioned above, only use a CD to boot from but it would be nice to to able to use the HD's 170GB of space if I wanted to without having to increase the save file after every few downloads... like keeping up to the new version just in this tread and, it seems that personal file space only increases so far(couple GB) before you have to start deleting some files to get more space.
mikesir: Hmmm very good explanation, never heard of that technique, I'll have to play with that when I get some free time! But I ask... wouldn't it be nice not to have to do all that switching and just have puppy do it without all the work? Remember... the title of this puppy is 'Most Leading Edge Lucid Ever' why can't little nuisance things like this be overcome and really take puppy down a new and adventurous road?
Now, again 'Thanks To All' for your feedback. I realize it's to late to do anything on this version but I hope you all push for some of these little things to be revamped on the next one.

instructions to install Wacom tablet
Many users own a Wacom tablet and it works great
with Lucid Puppy.
I've written out the step-by-step instructions to install
Wacom tablets such as the wacom Bamboo tablet
in a posting.

Lucid-5.2.1 use syslinux 4.03. I am pretty sure I have installed to ext4 filesystem but I will be sure to check again. Definitely I have successfully installed to a usb drive with ext4 fs..Was the 5.x PUI problem mentioned here ever addressed?

IMHO, Whatever "problems" there are are much more likely due to Puppy scripts, specifically timing. Is there any reason that luci is still using udev 124?

Actually, we are using libudev-151 along with a udev-124 that Barry prepared..

No i've never asked for help since none of what I do on Puppy really requires sound and it's never bothered me, however im making a distro for a friend that has the same Laptop and it's just started frustrating me in the last few days. I haven't tried much except running Alsa and messing with the settings for the sound through alsa mixer. shows my card as HDA Intel and Chip as Nvidia MCP78 HDMI which I don't really understand cause that would be my HD audio output wouldn't it?

I have noticed that sometimes alsa chooses the audio on the video card--and it never seems to work.my card as HDA Intel and Chip as Nvidia MCP78 HDMI which I don't really understand cause that would be my HD audio output wouldn't it?
One experiment is to run alsamixer and then press F6--which shows you the cards that have been detected. You can choose one and make sure the volume is raised. If you use Pmusic it has the capability to choose to play through any of the cards--so does Audacious in the PPM.
Of course, right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar and choose Full Window--go through and make sure everything is turned up and checked on--everything reasonable anyway.
The last step would be use use alsawizard. There is a potential problem with alsawizard. After it runs you will have only one soundcard! Or at least only one sound card will be usable. Therefore, if you have already run alsawizard, I strongly recommend a clean boot with the parameter pfix=ram. Start from scratch in other words.
Please stay with it because very often we learn improvements to make in Lucid by solving such problems. Plus, there are some very knowledgeable people on this forum.
thank you playdayz. Apparently yea it was the Alsa Wizard that was causing me problems. Serves me right for not reading up enough on potential problems. Alsamixer still only sees the one card and is showing Nvidia but it works now which is all that matters to me.

This is just a suggestion.
The help on the desktop and menu.
I think it would do more good to have them open the help page that is under Lucid Puppy News.
A lot more info there that would help with problems.
http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/LupuNews/index4.html
You could even have this page already installed with Puppy like the present help index.html
Help pointing to the Lucid Puppy news tweaks page would also be a good idea.

New error I think / maybe?
senario:
You are starting puppy without your external ethernet connection live;
You then turn on your external device;
Click on: (Under the Connect Icon): Autoconnect to Ethernet/Wireless networks
Result:
You use to get a green splash telling you when it was connected, this is not happening any more.
?Is this deliberate or a problem?

bigpup have added some of your suggestions here

Believe it or not some users just need a Puppy buddy to get them started
Do we have any Puppys willing to offer email based help?
Info can be added here (best in the format myname at gmail.com or similar)

@playdayz: Skype uses a wierd port for image echo, when you have time, try setting it up and then running your firewall program and see if it picks it up and adds it (I have no idea if it will). My notes talk about port 11758, but that may have just been for the system I was using at the time.playdayz wrote:Skype does not seem to work with my MS webcam. It finds the right /dev/video0 that works with guvcview, but in Options Video Test, I never get an image. I have tried with no extra graphics, Xorg_High, and ATI Catalyst. I don't use Skype so I have no one to call

Did that already! After updating, it was x-out, none of the boxes were ticked, sliders all at zero. This was an issue with new install on an earlier version. The reason is, I think, that the Front device (or some other device) is still turned up--you can see that if you right-click the volume icon and choose Full Window.
PM-ed rerwin at his request and about other shutdown/start-up/update issues.

Luci sound bug
I have tested Luci 256 on one of my PCs that has a particular sound bug. At first startup of Luci, the barks don't stop. I have to open a terminal, then kill 'aplay'.
This is a bug with the ALSA driver for certain saound hardware, I'm not the only one who has this problem. Sound does play properly in the media players though.
The thing is, this problem was solved long ago in Woof. The /usr/sbin/delayedrun script kills aplay a few seconds after it starts, ensuring that only the first 2-3 barks will be heard.
It seems that Luci has replaced the default delayedrun script with something else that does not kill aplay. I suggest that the appropriate code snippet be imported into Luci's script.

Maybe so, but wary with udev151 has a working sound in the XO laptops for example, lupu/luci till 256 never did, till you install 151 from the Ubuntu repo...playdayz wrote:IMHO, Whatever "problems" there are are much more likely due to Puppy scripts, specifically timing. Is there any reason that luci is still using udev 124?
