Sorry to hear that the fonts on puppy are specialized

this will revert the config of the fonts to the old defaults
its not a package just copy to /etc/fonts the three files included

First of all thank you very much for your help.
I've downloaded and installed the package following your instruction.
The installation runs fine but unfortunately I have the same problems:
- Firefox starts no more
- The Slaxer package tools in the root directory starts no more ( even after have installed and run your Txz updater)
- The unzipper starts no more

Again, many thanks
I haven't been following this closely, but if you wish to improve on the original fonts while keeping it very simple, look at my suggestion here, I hope it's still applicable:

fontconfig

#383 Post by CosmiCat »

Hello everyone

Big_bass
Ok. Issue fixed. Thank you

Shep
Thanks for your advice. I followed your link and I don't know if the package I mentioned above is an older version of your, but it solves the problem more easily installing itself as a .pet package with a click. If there are still some fonts hardly readable one can set the minimum font size in preferences.

slow appearance of menu bar

#384 Post by cowboy »

Hi big_bass,

Still checking out the TXZ_pup. While I saw this mentioned earlier in the thread, I'm unsure whether a fix had been made (or maybe, even needed). However, when I boot in to TXZ on a new savefile, the lower menu bar does not appear on the screen for 58 seconds. Background is there, program icons are there, and the drive icons also come up quickly. But the menu bar takes about a minute to appear.

First boot only - after creating a savefile, and rebooting the menu appears right away. Running an Intel 82845G chip here.

Hi Joe, couldn't resist putting a temptation your way...

[looking at TXZ on PPC MAC, maybe cross with slackintosh 12.0? - if you fancy it  ]

Hey Aitch

I am spending most of my time working on another project that has nothing to do with puppy (everything I learned developing txz-pup will help out though ) built with packages with another linux developer so my blessing is there
its still in alpha stages but solid and looking really good

txz_pup will be going though some changes to be used as my development tool to help get that other distro up and running quickly so packages will be updated but for a different reason than before

with that new project by design it would be possible to get up and running on other
systems as you suggested

hi!

sorry if this is off topic, but is there anywhere to find the files you once had available @ puppylinux.ca? In particular wxpython-2.8.7.1.pet & libmspack-20060924.pet?

Thanks!

Hi Joe,

had already downloaded txz_pup about a couple months ago, checked the MD5 and burned a CD -- but something must have gone wrong, it didn't boot (too many rewritings on the same CD-RW maybe!). Had time only today to do it all over again, burned on another CD and this time all went fine: posting this just to compliment you on your awesome work.

Testing TXZ_pup now for the very first minutes, it appears extremely fast and responsive -- it found the network connection automatically (cable ADSL) without problems. Very appealing, will test it on other boxes and with all kinds of apps & tweaks. :D

src2pkg

#393 Post by ptr »

hi big_bass

i use puppy since 3.01, came along txz a month ago, frugal install: it is what i am looking for ! thank you for this excellent work.

some experiences:

wlan without problems, but i have to load the profile each time i start txz, no automatically connection.

printing: cups with the help of the thread.

libreoffice: simple install with the txz-version of smokey01.com/coolpup !

what about gimp ? and xsane ? is there any txz of it ?

the setup of src2pkg gives the message:

/usr/libexec/src2pkg/01-pre_process: line 713: gcc: command not found
/usr/libexec/src2pkg/01-pre_process: line 842: gcc: command not found
Unpacking sources - OK
Creating libsentry - Ooops! Can t live without it...

how to fix it ? i have no experience with it but am willing to learn about txz.

with thanks from germany.

Hey ptr

main package location
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/

txz_updater this is needed it gives you a menu entry then run it
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/txz_updater-1-4_SLXR.tgz

to compile packages you need these first thats the gcc
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/412-devx-i486-4_SLXR.txz
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/loadconfig ... 3_SLXR.txz

older gimp but works
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/gimphoto-1 ... 3_SLXR.txz

*I havent set up the scanner so I havent tested that package

thanks for posting I used 3.01 for along time too until puppy 4.12

I had already recompiled gtk2 and friends it was working but caused only firefox to crash and since firefox was the default browser that would mean burning a new cd to replace firefox
seamonkey works with the new gtk2 ( I use seamonkey but you have to install it first or no browser)
I think that firefox has a problem with pango

its a workout but I'll have to go though the routine again when I have a few free hours
then more heavy testing all the programs that depend on it

I have a small update of some tools *not gtk2 yet * here
Joe

now with menu entry
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/txz_updater-6-25_SLXR.tgz

added pet2slack to dragNdrop pet packages and convert them to corrected slackware packaqe format creating the slack-desc automatically

there is a pet2tgz preinstalled but that doesnt make a correct slackware package it makes a tar.gz

a new folder is made with the package name and the new package is placed inside that folder
so you can verify what happened during conversion

*why ? since I dont use pets (I did leave that option available though for new users ) and mixing and matching stuff with two package formats is not needed since pkgtools will install everything and very quickly and maintain a database
and has dependency checking also and an installed package viewer

I didnt establish pkgtools slackware did I just rewrote it to work in an X environment with just Xdialog as a dependency I did add dependency checking to its bag of tricks
if I knew how much time it would have taken me to write it before I started
I would have done something else like updating more packages

also Xdialog package tools tested on slackware 13.37 updated to work correctly

Thanks Joe
Perhaps you've forgotten to upload the new txz_updater. The link gives me the "file not found" message.
