Well, I just finished making this little puplet. It's meant to be slim, clean, and minimalistic.
Download it here or at the site, and tell me what you think Screenshots of your experience will be much appreciated.

SlimPup 1.0
I downloaded and burn a copy. It works okay and it is really black. I think openbox must be dead, because it is always black on black and even more black. When I learn how to use it better, it just mind grow on me.
Operating System
Version
Kernel Linux 2.6.33.2 (i686)
Compiled #1 SMP Thu May 27 10:56:32 EST 2010
C Library GNU C Library version 2.11.1 (stable)
Default C Compiler Unknown
Distribution Puppy Linux 0.52
Current Session
Computer Name SlimPup
User Name root (root)
Home Directory /root
Desktop Environment Unknown (Window Manager: Openbox)
Misc
Uptime 30 minutes
Load Average 0.11, 0.04, 0.01
But it is not SLIM by Puppy standards.

Re: SlimPup 1.0
I must admit, the filesize of the .iso is quite large for a Puplet.l2ulinux wrote:I downloaded and burn a copy. It works okay and it is really black. I think openbox must be dead, because it is always black on black and even more black. When I learn how to use it better, it just mind grow on me.

The menu is uncluttered and has the most essentiel apps, but I did not remove other apps that the uncommon user may find useful, just in case someone wanted to access them.
SlimPup
How do you add items to the menu? I am learning and I understand how to use the terminial to run some programs. I am running Iron right now writing this and the first was with Firefox 4.. I want to add PupApps to the menu.
Re: SlimPup
Under "settings," the entry "ObMenu" lets you add/remove entries to the Openbox menu.l2ulinux wrote:How do you add items to the menu? Web Of Trust ratings
Hi sheepy, I went o have a look at the this puppy but my Web of Trust addon rates this site at "Dodgy" (sorry) due to
"This subdomain inherits the reputation of freevar.com."
I must admit I am a little wary of downloading from such a host.
Just thought you should know
Cheers

That's quite alright, you may still download it from Softpedia insteadveronicathecow wrote:Hi sheepy, I went o have a look at the this puppy but my Web of Trust addon rates this site at "Dodgy" (sorry) due to

The iso is pretty large for Puppy, because GIMP takes up almost 100mb, and audacity takes up like 20. But I promise the environment itself is very lightweight and minimalistic. Give it a trydWLkR wrote:ehr...

The download link at Softpedia is a redirect back to the download page on your web site sheepy.
The original Megaupload version is still here, if anyone is interested.

I don't know anyone, oddly. I logged in to my email a couple of days ago, and got an email from Softpedia that they added a page for it; I guess that gave it some attention. I didn't know it was on Distrowatch until a user here messaged me, telling me it was, while asking me a question about Openbox.cthisbear wrote:I see that you made it to Distrowatch.
Who do you know??
Chris.
No criticism but words for Linux distros seems to use words in surprising ways. When I saw Slimpup on DW then I thought that cool finally somebody being as slim as Slitaz around 30MB or so.
But to your defense comes Knoppix that some Debian guys saw as a Micro system due to it fitted a CD some 700MB. to them that was a Micro distro.
Lightweighted is another word when they see an Ubuntu having 900MB as lightweighted.
Another defence. TCL seems small seeing it as 11MB but if you add what is in Puppy having some 128MB or so then TCL as one user told me will end up around 180MB so same or more than the standard Puppy have.
So programs do take space.
That is why I have fantasies about easy to use sfs loaders that one can reliably use without messing up the pupsavefile or to find ways to work without a pupsave file.
People have told me that most likely one can set puppy up as one like it and then do a remaster or iso and then boot that one and one need no pupsave file at all. One have already everything set from get go.
Then if one need a program that one did not want to include in the "slim" personal take then one use the sfs loader and that keep the distro slim forever. Modular and no pupsave that grow out of available space either.
But I know too little on how things works and have not dared to do an iso or remix yet.

I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

The window manager is Openbox.bignono1 wrote:How do i put an icon for the sound volume power off and country indicator on the desktop?
The window manager , i couldn't figure it out , what is it?
To create a desktop icon, make a new file somewhere in rox, open it with a text editor, type in the command for what you're trying to do, save it, open the properties of the file you just made, and check all the boxes for "exec." Now drag it to the desktop. Voila, you now have a desktop pin to run your application
I believe the two commands you're looking for are "rxvt -e alsamixer" and "countrywizard"
