Puppy 431 sound just dies after a while

I run my computer 24/7 and on quite a few occasions I have woken up in the morning to find that my sound has decided to die. I do not sleepwalk so it was not me. Running 4.3.1 on a HP Vectra.

Should I get a rolled up newspaper now?

Can you prove that you don't sleep walk or any member of the family?

@Ridgy: have you installed an aftermarket sound card, or are you using the internal sound system of the computer? (I assume that this is a desktop...)

I always have to re-run the ALSA sound wizard with 4.3.1 because it's crash-prone.

Righto a few more details. It is a desktop with an old all in one motherboard. The sound works after install but then just sometimes the little red cross appears in the volume control icon in the system tray and no sound comes out.

To get even weirder, last night when I started this thread it was not working. Today the little red cross is still there but the same utube video is putting out sound. I am getting very confused now.

No I do not sleepwalk. I very rarely sleep because the missus keeps kicking me. I don't see how you can snore when you can never get to sleep.

I seem to remember that there have been posts about some PC having difficulties to wake-up after suspend or hibernation.
I think it had to do with the power applied again to interfaces and some like sound and WiFi don't like this very much.

I can't remember of a cure.

Maybe you can leave the PC on to humm a tune continually so you don't snore and have a good sleep.

I have a frugal install on the hard drive and yes it does work fine. It just seems that every second Tuesday if we had a good rain two nights before the thing is buggered. Just played the same video again to check and the little red cross is there but I have sound.

Some of your problem could be leaving Puppy running 24/7.
A good reboot. now and then. cleans up old temp stuff and does a general reset.
Also, save files can get corrupted. A good file system check, every so often, is a good idea.

Try this:

Open the boot loader menu.lst file in a text editor.
Add this to the end of the kernel line for the entry that boots Puppy.

pfix=fsck

Example:
Yours will probably look different.

kernel /Luci266/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=Luci266 pfix=fsck

Reboot computer.

What happens?

Wow -- surprised you got sound to work at all on 431. I've never been able to do that. 421 works fine -- very solid. But I have burned 431 retro and may try that because I've heard (pun intended) it is more sound-friendly with older systems.
