I have run lucid 5.2.5 and Puppee on my Asus netbook (1001PXD) and it will not detect the wireless card or wired network card. I have also tried installing to the hard drive but this also didnt work.
I managed to get the devices recognised using Fluppy with the Frisbee wireless manager but the connection kept dropping every 5-10 minutes. I was also disappointed with the lack of package support in Fluppy and would prefer to use Puppy.
I really want to use puppy on my netbook but i cannot until this is resolved. Has anyone managed to get these devices working from Puppy?

Those are quite new wifi and ethernet devices, for which third-party/updated drivers are necessary.

Thanks for the link. I managed to get each device recognised. For some reason now I cannot connect to the wireless lan.
I was running lubuntu and the link quality was on 98/100 strength and no issues. For some reason when I check the log on puppy the link quality is only 10/100 (i am right next to the wireless router).
I am getting an error,timeout Have not get an access point message in the log. I am trying to connect using a 13 character ASCII key using WEP. Checked router and credentials definitely match.

It looks like the r8192se_pci driver is not playing well with WEP encryption.
This type of thing is not uncommon - I have seen situations where a Linux wifi driver (I can't remember which one) totally failed to connect to a router with WPA, but after the router was changed to WPA2 the driver worked perfectly.
I just checked the r8192se_pci driver parameters now, and I see this -
So try this - first take down your wifi interface and unload the driver
Now reload the driver specifying software WEP -
Now run the Network Wizard to connect to your WEP wifi router.
If this works OK, I can let you know how to make this setting permanent.

Thanks for the quick reply. I followed the steps in your post. When running the modprobe r8192se_pci hwwep=0 i received a message saying
WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/.
Not sure if this was an issue.
I then tried to reconnect to the WEP wifi connection. There was a different issue this time, the DHCP client failed to negotiate.

i) are you sure your wifi router's encryption-mode is "restricted"? Most consumer wifi routers use "open".
ii) have you entered your WEP encryption key as its true hexadecimal digits? If, instead, you have entered your WEP password (ASCII string) this will only work if you prefix it with "s:" (without the quotation marks).

Yes, I don't like the way that the Network Wizard takes down the interface before it runs the WEP-related connection commands, and I was about to suggest that you run manual commands (or via a script) as per my HOWTO here -worldofbooks wrote:I installed frisbee and I managed to connect to the WEP network immediately.

I presume that leaving the wifi driver in its default hardware-WEP state is OK.

Yes everything works fine now that frisbee is installed.
I wonder if from the information that i have posted you can help with another issue. Having got on the internet I tried watching a few videos and found that sound is not working either.
I also tried so local files and still nothing. tried with smplayer,vlc,foobar. There is a volume control in the panel but that is turned on full, nothing is muted.
