don570,
Thank you for your efforts and contributions.
I installed your drive list pet.
I didn't find an option to add bookmarks.
In fact the way I operate is making bookmarks while in ROX for directories I often go to. And ROX is added the shelve.
So I don't quite well see the added value.
However others may find so and are maybe happy with this addition.

You're a window's user, right?
How are your disks numbered?
(go to the terminal and type 'df')
I was looking into how to make
the list user changeable
since some puppies use labels for
their disks, but a Bookmarks list
like ROX would be nice.
I'll look into how ROX stores it's bookmark file.
I find the program useful because
I store my data on Disk partitions
and when this app is on the bottom shelf
it now takes me a only a second to
open the program and click on the hard drive
where I have my data.
A keystroke launch for this program would
be good as well.

don570,
No, I'm not a windows user. Look at the date I subscribed to the forum and the n° of posts. I use puppy from 1.08 on. The same for you?
My partitions are sdX. And I address them as such.
My data is outside the save file in different partitions.
To access my data and open the corresponding program I launch ROX select the directory in the bookmarks of ROX, get that directory and click on the data file to open the corresponding program.
Can you propose something easier?

Google or wiki has to know how them do such numbering.
I've been a win user. Did them not use A: B: C: D: and so on. I know one USB I used was named H: one time and G: another time.
So try wiki or google
Now I remember a bit better.
Floppy disk 1 was named A: floppy 2 was named B: and C: was the internal HDD and the second internal the slave HDD was named D: and then usb externals given E: F: G: and so on

not an ideal solution though

Know what I would like? I would like to assign unique names to drives, like say, htc for my phone, walkman for my mp3 player etc., then it would be way more reliable using the drive names in scripts, such as this:
Ubuntu can do it, so it must be possible.
Code: Select all
#!/bin/sh
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1
rox /mnt/sdb1/download
mv /root/downloads/*.mp3 /mnt/sdb1/download
umount /dev/sdb1
systemsound alert

Not sure I understand you.
htc can have a directory /mnt/htc/
Then mount <your htc device> /mnt/htc/
And you scripts should check if the htx device is mounted and then use /mnt/htc.

Interesting... but I am unsure how to do that. I cancreate the dir /mnt/htc/ of course, but dont see where to go from there. How would puppy know that sdb1 was in fact htc?Béèm wrote:Not sure I understand you.

When connecting that htc device, which might be a USB device, it will be recognized as /dev/sdf1 f.e.
Then the command is mount /dev/sdf1 /mnt/htc.
And all you scripts referring to /mnt/sdf1 will find the htc device.

Pemasu, when I install Openbox from the repo, it wont run. How do I go about de-bugging it, finding the problem?pemasu wrote:Backi. I think right place is in Additional Software section under Requests. I have a little older LMMS as pet for Polarpup.
Since it is Qt4 application, you need Qt4 libs to run it. So...Polarpup is for those Qt4 multimedia applications.

DaveS,

SO HAPPY
Got jack and aqualung running.
Why: Aqualung is my favorite but won't play through my USB sound thingy without jack. Internal sound card borked.
Side note: I spend a while playing with puredyne getting to know jack.

Tahr Pup 6 on desktop, Lucid 3HD on lappie
Thanks stu90 of starting information for openbox. As exchange, I have now fixed laptop-tools-all for Dpups. I will upload it to the repo.
Dave S. Sorry, I cant help you much. I know next to nothing about openbox. I havent ever included it in my puplets. Sorry.
First icons fixing UPDATE pet is ready. It has also Shutdown icon in e17 desktop. For those who are absolutely lost in space, it is emergency button to launch the lifepod-capsule. Those who dont need it, just remove safety labels. Bacon recorder has been updated also.
To get EFM ( e17 filemanager ) to show all folders aka being in the root of folders:
Right click that Home icon in e17 desktop > Application settings > remove that HOME word in file:$HOME row. That way you get folders root as starting point. There is no easy way to do that in e17 preferences, no config file to edit, unfortunately. So I cant include that improvement in UPDATE.
To install that UPDATE 0.0.2, use Menu > Setup > Setup... > Dpup Exprimo Updater, if it does not work, it is in the pet_packages-exprimo repo in Smokey01.com.
UPDATE 5.X.5 0.0.2 is cumulative. You can remove the 5.X.5 UPDATE 0.0.1 first and then install 0.0.2.
I will inspect soon apps I will change. PDF convert app surely is one of them. I dont want Abiword dependent apps in base distro.

yes 'xwin openbox' is the command to start openbox.
Perhaps there is missing dependency - try running command:
ldd /usr/bin/openbox
Also just noticed my edited fixmenus script is still in there /usr/bin/fixmenus - this will remove all JWM menu icons to make it look more like openbox and is probably lacking what ever is needed to generate E17 menus. Best to use Exprimo's fixmenus.
Thanks for update Pemasupemasu wrote:Thanks stu90 of starting information for openbox. As exchange, I have now fixed laptop-tools-all for Dpups. I will upload it to the repo.
