No shutdown problems here....... 2 frugal installs of 499.5 Beta 3.Main Athlon XP box and old P3 test box..... both shutdown normally.wuwei wrote:ConfirmedTasgarth wrote:Dont know if anyone else has had a similar problem with Slacko B3 :

With B2 : no problem.
For the fun ,I updated my B2 (frugal install) > B3 and now I cannot power off. It 'reboots' again
Same error on my machine.
Slacko B3
wmpoweroff
More precisely:
1. savefile upgraded from B2>B3:
- click on /usr/bin/wmpoweroff = reboots
- wmpoweroff icon dragged to desktop = reboots
- Menu-shutdown-poweroff = reboots
- terminal entry: wmpoweroff = reboots
2. B3 booted pfix=ram:
- Menu-shutdown-poweroff = shutdown
So this problem occurrs only in the upgraded savefile.
But still, it is a new and unexpected error.

Re: wmpoweroff
yep, needs a sleep, fixed for B4wuwei wrote:More precisely:

EDIT: to elaborate.. something it seems is not killed, I don't know why yet, but adding a "sleep 2" to sbin/poweroff fixes it . I captured what gets echoed to "/tmp/wmexitmode.txt" and that is ok, so really the sleep is only a work-a-round for now.
just a note to self: B3 is woof-110918, B2 is woof-110829 (or there about)

and now it seems to have gone again and shut down really shuts down . . .
Thank goodness it is fixed in b4
I am about to start a Slacko cloud support thread in 'cutting edge' section
Please support that and Psip which is now in rc9 - works on Fatdog (to perfection apparently) and the 32 bit version is also improving on a daily basis . . .

Re: Cups-PDF
How well a web page converts to PDF has more to do with your browser and the complexity of the page than the PDF printer driver.wuwei wrote:But does anybody have an idea, why CUPS-PDF - in Slacko B3 - doesn't print pictures while it does print text?I am trying to print PDFs from various web sites, but the pictures never come through.
For example, if you convert this forum page to PDF, do the graphics show?
Does "Print to File" work differently than CUPS-PDF?
Does CUPS-PDF work better for you in other Puppies?

Thanks I tried your suggestions and got this:rcrsn51 wrote:How well a web page converts to PDF has more to do with your browser and the complexity of the page than the PDF printer driver.wuwei wrote:But does anybody have an idea, why CUPS-PDF - in Slacko B3 - doesn't print pictures while it does print text?I am trying to print PDFs from various web sites, but the pictures never come through.

1. converting this page with CUPS-PDF gives me an empty pdf-file and the printer line shows: /etc/cups/interfaces/CUPS-PDF failed.
2. Yes, "print-to-file" choosing "pdf" works as it is supposed to. All graphics are showing. I tried several different pages and it works everytime.
3. Yes, CUPS-PDF works in 528 without problem. It does not in Akita, if that is any consolation
Working ok for me .. no printer installed.. did you install a printer?
All 6 pages show fine

I don't have a problem either with this forum page. But I noticed that the PDF file created by Seamonkey was MUCH larger than the one made by Firefox. If you don't wait for Seamonkey to finish, you can get a corrupted PDF.
[Edit] This was done with FF 3.6.17.

I just printed to pdf from firefox-aurora-6.0 from PPM (I compiled) and with my huge image just posted the file is 300k bigger than the one I referred to in said post (seamonkey). So, bearing in mind I compiled seamonkey too it may be a compile option that I have missed that causes size difference.
wuwei.. what browser were you using? (seems to me could be browser dependent)

I am using FF 7.0 from /mnt/home and have ghostprint 9.0 installed. CUPS-PDF isn't printing anything now, and neither does my HP F2180. It doesn't seem to be FF, because SM isn't any better. I can't recall any of these problems in B2.
So, maybe I just wait for B4.
Do you mean Ghostscript? Since CUPS-PDF works directly with Ghostscript, that's your most likely culprit. Why did you upgrade?wuwei wrote:I am using FF 7.0 from /mnt/home and have ghostprint 9.0 installed.
If you do a clean install and add no new packages, can you duplicate the problem? That should always be your first bug-tracking procedure.
Have you installed the usb-0.1 patch needed for USB printers in B3?CUPS-PDF isn't printing anything now, and neither does my HP F2180. It doesn't seem to be FF, because SM isn't any better.
However, messing with Ghostscript could affect other things. You can't play mix-and-match with the Linux printing system.
I tried dog...same problem. I tried before going to bed and then in the morning. Must be a problem with the new kernel01micko wrote:Yeah that looks weird. Yes, of course, I meant ghostscript, silly me.
By now it looks as if the savefile is thouroughly messed up.
I'll wait for B4 or B5 and establish a new savefile and see what problems remain.
Until then, and thanks again.
This issue is further complicated by the fact that there are several PDF printer drivers that are all named CUPS-PDF.
Slacko has a version that uses a CUPS backend script named pdf-writer.
Luci has two - a binary backend named cups-pdf and the script pdf-writer. It calls one printer CUPS-PDF and the other PDF-Writer.
[Edit] In fact, both of the Luci drivers are using pdf-writer. The cups-pdf backend is an entirely different animal and doesn't appear to be used at all.
The two Luci versions just appear to be different releases of jcoder24's pdf-writer project from 2007.

Ok here is what I did: loaded a forum page in Firefox 7. Selected print and chose CUPS-PDF. It created a file as expected. Clicked on file and it loaded into some strange sh*t that looked like a terminal window (Zathura?). Closed that and loaded it into ePDFviewer. Printed just fine from there. (used a lot of paper and ink )
So I guess it all works OK here.
