TXZ_pup 4.5
I know Big_Bass is really (very) busy.
But it been almost an year:
TXZ_Pup-4.50-7-13-2010.iso
Could need an fresh new ISO - new make over.
With new wallpaper and icons + any new tools
How about an browser installer - kazehakase, opera, skipstone, seamonkey, firefox or midori.
dillo as stand by.
updates just don't get any puppy news.
Good news i use TXZ_Pup more than my 3.02 pup.

A few years a go I got with the netsurf developer (rjek) to get it on puppy
when I was on fat free 3.01 he ended up making his own pet packages for puppy
I wonder if he is still one of the main developers on it if so thats a nice fast light browser
*well I see what happened puppy users ticked off another main app developerhttp://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 04&t=46398
sorry to see that rjek (He was very helpful and a nice guy )
I have spent most of my time setting up package management
and tools to build everything from source code
for me TXZ is my stable work horse
to use to build tools with and write code
if I took the route of constant never ending updated ISO's
I wouldnt have anytime to do what I like to do
I guess linux its a way of life for me
some people are interested in quick results no matter what they have to do to get "in the news"
others are more interested in the really learning how things work from the bottom up
I would like to finally start writing some code in BaCon
that has been on my must do list for a long time
small fast apps you write in basic and it compiles as fast C code
theres a lot that still needs to be done

I tend to use Seamonkey as the integrated package simplifies things - but they are making some changes that make it a little less desirable to some.harii4 wrote: How about an browser installer - kazehakase, opera, skipstone, seamonkey, firefox or midori. dillo as stand by.
I've used Midori under Fluppy 013 and it is a fine app, the challenge has been Claws, though I read that the newest version is greatly-improved. (Claws pairs with Midori for an essentially-integrated E-mail-Web package.)
The Squeeze 5X7 developers say that Midori is a nightmare to port to Puppy and so it may have died to Puppy users with Jemimah's adaptation for Fluppy. (I have no idea why she could do it and no one else can but there is is.)
Never heard of kazehakase, will have to look at that. I didn't like some things about Opera, I recall looking at skipstone and forget why I 'skipped it', Firefox seems to be following a MS-model of constant change and some of the same questionable changes as Seamonkey (see the support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org discussion list for details).
Dillo seems to have disappeared from many Puplets. I am not sure why but, like Midori, it may be due to complex and/or large dependencies.
Since I am not a developer I humbly submit to the best judgment of those who do - and am very grateful that they share the blessings of their talents!
EDIT: Kazehakase appears to have been abandoned in 2008 http://kazehakase.sourceforge.jp/wiki/?c=recent

lucky you have an "cleanup_memory" tool
I played with settings and had no luck with the other browsers.
Broken my pup setup 3 times but i'll get it yet lol
I'll try netsurf.
been using links hacked from slackfind - its works but not pretty
just miss the copy and paste.

Midori had stability problems but it was either an update by Midori or a tweak by Jemimah which led to a stable version ... I use it a lot.
I will miss it when Fluppy 013 finally runs out of gas and no one compiles it for Squeeze, etc.

this started because my son wanted to listen to music on his nintendo ds game thingy
I passed some music for him in mp3 I thought that would be fine
but no it only reads mp4
no problem lets convert it so I took the lazy way with some on line converter it took a long time
hey there has got to be a light converter for linux right?
yeah and about 20 times faster
so I found a script and edited it for (dragndrop and to give you a terminal output
to watch the progress )
it has two dependencies I compiled for txz_pup
faad2 , faac and mpg123
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/faac-1.28-i486.tgz
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/faad2-2.7-i486.tgz
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/mpg123-1.13.3-i486-1.tgz about 300kb
enjoy
all of theses are drag n drop scripts
updated to place the song title embedded in the file Nov-13-2011

stay far away from any window managers at first
there are always configurations needed to get everything from default to just working
then quite some time fine tuning everything
this isnt a src2pkg problem it is jumping into complex packages
just for fun take a look at xcfe and see how many dependencies only that are needed
if you want a list of some easy packages I will have some time tomorrow
to post some but meanwhile
maybe my friend Gilbert "amigo¨ will see this and offer some simple packages to get built quickly ....he wrote src2pkg

if you want a list of some easy packages I will have some time tomorrow

nothing is wrong with src2pkg just my skill level.
I know i lacked the skills for the complex stuff but about half of the apps tested - worked.
Most failed due to missing dependencies
Thank you Big_Bass and Amigo
I'm working alot of overtime but if you would like to send an list.

bacon-1.0.24 upxed the bin
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/bacon-1.0.24-2_SLXR.tgz
everything you need to get started with BaCon
==============================================
==============================================
Memo: as new puppy versions come out everyday
I am working on learning BaCon and writing some new apps
and pressing forward to some new things that havent been already done before
the first BaCon app I started on (GatorDog and I completed )is to
take Keywords from a programming language and add syntax coloring
its called bacon2bb it converts Bacon code to this fourms BBcode
for color viewing of the keywords here is an example
when you convert BB code to html it looks like this
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/bacon2bb.html
a big file example with 3 colors
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/hug-colored.html
anyone who ever did a web page knows
there is no easy way to add color to a custom
keyword list bacon2bb auto generates this
bacon2bb
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/bacon2bb-2 ... 1_SLXR.tgz
replace its a dependency
http://www.puppy2.org/slaxer/replace-2. ... 1_SLXR.tgz
this opens up the possibility to many new things
such as code conversions from one language to another since all the keywords are recognized they could be exchanged to a super powerful (sed or replace program )
for sources as is bacon2bb is converting about 300 keywords automatically
and the list is outside of the compiled binary this means the user just
edits a plain text file for new keywords so no "programming" needed
to make your own lists
and the list goes on ...
