This is a note on the Secondlife viewer running under Puppy Linux.
HARDWARE AND DRIVER
The Secondlife viewer for Linux runs only with nVidia graphics cards.
You need nVidia commercial driver. You may need open GL and SDL.

You must set the color depth to 24(not 16) at the X configuration.
PUPPY VERSION AND THE VIEWERS VERSION
The Secondlife viewer 3.x runs on Puppy 5.x.

On Puppy 4.x, the Secondlife viewer 1.2.3 runs.

As for the Racy beta2, 3.0.7 kernel with the nVidia driver 285-06.09 is unstable for me (GeForce-8800GX).
CACHE AND LOGS
The Secondlife viewer takes cache on /root/.secondlife, which consumes pupsave so much,500MB as the default.
The log is written in /tmp/xerrs.log if it is run from ROX-Filer, it is also pretty large.
Follow next steps to prevent these pupsave/RAM consumption(Assuming you have puppy frugal installed).
- Make directory /mnt/home/secondlife.
- Make a symlink of /mnt/home/secondlife as /root/secondlife.
- Rename /root/secondlife to /root/.secondlife.
- Download the Secondlife viewer tarball into the /mnt/home/secondlife and extract it there.
- Find the executable script 'secondlife' in the extracted directory, and make a symlink of the 'secondlife' as /root/my-applications/bin/secondlife.
- Launch a virtual terminal and type 'secondlife'.
The streaming music and media are available on Wary 5.2 with gstreamer-0.10.35-w5.sfs .
For Lucid, try gstreamer-0.10.35-lucid.sfs .
Slaco and Dpup can use gstreamer0.10-2-slacko.sfs.
