The one feature that I miss is that the old one, which I used under Windows, allowed simple drag and drop for photo organizing. It doesn't seem to work under this one (it the copies the photos instead)... Did I miss a setting/config somewhere?Dromeno wrote:Pemasu thanks for putting your time into Xnview!
explanation:
Xnview is the fastest tool I have found (so far) which is able to browse full screen through a pile of photos and gives the user the option to rate the pics with a 5 star rating system. My girlfriend spent a couple of months in Austrralia and New Zealand, came back with thousands of photos and needs a system to select the best ones / throuw out the worst ones fast. But the Xnview 0.39 is the first version in which the arrow buttons work in combination with full screen mode and photo rating, which is the fastest option (faster than using the mouse)
It would be lovely if this particular Xnview can be made to work in the customized puppy 525 we both use, which already has a couple of other progs installed, so we do not need to create a new customized puppy from the base version.

Still not working. Weird...
Bizarre... I have tested the new sfs (unloaded the 0.34 one, then loaded the new one via boot manager and rebooted)
...but the very same lookup error is still there.
In the sfs I can see you have the libs moved to opt. So I am using the right sfs.
What else do you think it can be?

I put it in and get no errors (of course, I didn't get errors on the previous 0.39 one either)...Dromeno wrote:Bizarre... I have tested the new sfs (unloaded the 0.34 one, then loaded the new one via boot manager and rebooted)

Dromeno. Sorry. I am clueless. I suggest you to try and test with fresh frugal install. And you could also try with installling the pet instead of sfs.
Edit. What happens if you launch in console, the xnview.sh, that launching wrapper file is the right launching file, it has export commands for finding right libs location before it lauches xnview. Same goes with xnconvert.sh.

Thanks but unfortunately...
pemasu, thanks again. I am clueless too, the same thing happens with xnview.sh
The weird thing is, it does not happen with the previous (0.34) version of Xnview. I wonder what the differences between the two are.
But anyway, the 0.39 is also not yet perfect. It still crashes sometimes, the word unstable in the title bar is ther for a reason. But eventually, whenever a 1.0 version is reached, it will be a killer of a photo viewer.
BTW - do you have any idea where the rating info about the photos is stored? If you rate the photos with Xnview, and open the folder on another machine with the same version of Xnview the rating info is lost. I would be very convenient if the rating info could be back-upped somewhere (especially after rating a couple of hundreds of photos).

No...I dont have that profound understanding or Xnview. But Xnview website has active forum threads and info threads. I am sure that knowledge is buried somewhere there....

Hello,
I downloaded xnview 0.39 from the official site, uncompressed it directly in my downloads directory, opened xnview directory and just clicked on xnview.sh: this ran perfectly "out of the box", in French (Racy 5.3 pfix=ram)! So, I think this is not a problem of "compatibility", but just some lib or file path which has to be set/linked somewhere?
Cordialement.

More Info
useful information here about what is contained
I have been searching for a puppy application to make web photo albums
I downloaded XnView and it will do what I need it to do. Muchly appreciated.
Is there a faster image viewer than xnview, gtksee etc?
xnview is the only one that does this quite quickly, and even it seems to be quite a lot slower than the proprietary windows applications
It's primarily an image viewer, but with some added features. It can:
open about 400 image formats-it opened some photoshop files that not even Gimp would open
export 50 formats
slideshow feature
tonal adjustments such as brightness, contrast, gamma, and color balance
resize, crop, some filters, add metadata, do batch conversion
create a thumbnail image gallery in HTML
It's also multi platform
and a host of other features. It is not, however a paint or retouching program.

XNview MP or Shotwell
as people suggest Xnwiew Mp on Shotwell topic, it's fair to inform that brand new Triton 6 (base tahrpup 6.0.5) includes Shotwell. No libs to search, no bugs to resolve, just use it.

Hi hamoudoudou,
I'm not sure xnview 51 was woof-installed. AFAIR, it was among the pets I packaged as an "update". If so, it originated on your? (Pelo?'s) recommendation, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 933#859933 that ultimately lead here, https://www.xnview.com/fr/, I think I combined xnview and xnconvert repackaged as one pet. But maybe not.
