Hi pemasu,
I understand that 5x13 is still using the BFS kernel. So that wasn't the problem after all. As I mentioned, although everything worked, including graphics at my highest resolution, when some dialogs were called up, such as Frisbee, the input window or display would have a line or box obscuring the display or field.
That doesn't happen running 5x13. So something has changed, but I don't know what. But you've made me a happy camper.(':D')
Regarding a new SMP Exprimo, my vote is "Yes." My understanding is that, unlike PAE --which will only run if you have a dual or multicore system-- SMP will run on a single core system. It just enables your computer to access more RAM, regardless. Frankly, I don't know the down-side.
Regarding Series 3 Kernels, the only one I had a problem with is the 3.1.8 Kernel. Others in the 3.1 series ran fine. I did not test the 3.0.6. The 3.2.2. ran without problems under both an AMD Phenom II X4 920 with ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics and an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ with NVIDIA GeForce 6150LE Graphics.
But as I suggested on the Slacko thread,
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 096#600096 before deciding the next kernel to use it might be best if the devs reach a consensus since wireless and graphics drivers are kernel specific: in the absence of a good reason its wasteful of your time and puppy's space --and confusing to everyone-- to compile and maintain multiple drivers. The exception would be something like: the X kernel was the best for a debian system but didn't work well with one based on slackware, or vice-versa.
See
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 112#600112 for the kernels tested under Slacko. I didn't experience a problem with any of them.
