[solved]no keyboard and mouse during installation

#1 Post by iamhealed »

hello everyone,

i am currently installing wary 5.2.2 through frugal installation. i was successful in running the setup files. however, while it was loading the files, i lost the keyboard and mouse when the screen is asking me to select the keyboard layout.

i have a ps2 mouse and keyboard.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

thank you so much!

How are you running Wary before trying to install?

What are you using to do the frugal install? What program?
Your computer specs would help?
You do what, you see what, would help.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

no keyboard and mouse during installation

iamhealed,

Were you doing a frugal installation manually? I am wondering if you put your startup files into different partitions and/or directories by mistake, thus causing Puppy to mess up because it doesn't know where to access the files it needs to complete the installation? Can you check the location of your startup files?

I am wondering if your issue is really a bug or not. Can you reproduce this scenario? Have you tried to re-install?

for problems with usb keyboard&mouse probably read here >

(Solved) USB keyboard fails first boot after full install

in Your case
/lib/modules/`uname -r`/
kernel/drivers/input/mouse/psmouse.ko
kernel/drivers/hid/hid.ko

might not been loaded automatically
due to missing demod[-FULL]
or not installing the kernel drivers from the initrd.gz correctly .

i really don't know much about frugal installation..

but i was successful in installing the latest version of lupu 528 with the same steps i did in installing wary..

here's what i did,

1. downloaded the iso and check its integrity
2. extracted iso using winzip to c:/
3. downloaded grub4 dos and extracted the grdlr and mnulst file to c:/

inside the menu.list

title Puppy Linux

kernel (hd0,1)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 pmedia=idecd

initrd (hd0,1)/initrd.gz

i dont know if its a bug but i was not able to install it.

Download the Puppy iso file.
Use a burner program to burn the iso image to a CD or DVD.
Boot with the live Puppy CD/DVD you just made.
In Puppy, use the Puppy universal Installer to do the install.
This info will help you.

iamhealed,

I agree with bigpup. Follow his directions.
kernel (hd0,1)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 pmedia=idecd
From your menu.lst it appears that puppy is expecting the pertinent files to be located on a compact disc when in fact you have already extracted the iso to the hard drive, hence the problem.

A useful program for Windows XP and Vista re: burning iso files to disc is Alex Feinman's ISO Recorder whereas Windows 7 has this function built in to the operating system. Since you mentioned Winzip, I assume that you run one of those systems.

In the event that this suggestion works for you, please mark this topic as "solved" and I would also recommend that this thread be moved to the Beginners Help section since this issue would not be classified as a bug.

cheers,
Monsie
