(SOLVED) Pupplet without all the additional software?

#1 Post by ntg255 »

I've been using Puppy Linux since 2007 / 2008. Loved it, customized it to suit my needs, but I couldn't join the forums (I was nine years old). I am now thirteen, so I have joined the forums. I'm looking at Puppy now, and I like it. However, I have took the new Precise Puppy 5.4 for a test drive, liked it, but didn't want all the extra stuff. Is there a ISO image with Puppy Linux, except with out all the fancy-scmancy stuff (i.e. only JWM, Xorg / Xvesa, Getpet / Puppy Package Manager, Network Setup, Rox-Filer, and Archiver)?

Most Puppies in the last year or 2 let you "remove builtin
packages"; make your favorite smaller.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs

There is no one best Puppy.
4.0 4.1 were good
4.3.1 was a masterpiece
5.2.5 I am using currently

Over time there have been many interesting pup(let)s - often I'll pop a disc in of one like turbo or zenfunk's nifty PULP (nice to see vintage gtk and a pup that was designed to offer some 'lighter' choices).

You might want to be a tad careful with remove-builtins - there's the possibility of removing parts that may be vital to other stuff. Always backup and/or leave yourself an out if things go not-so-well

oya .. Welcome! :D

Here are a few, but based on older versions of Puppy.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Sorry, I was busy for quite a while. Your answers are very helpful! (Although I have tried BrowserLinux and Wary.) I didn't know there was the ability to remove builtin packages, so I'll try that out. :D

I've always been wondering that when I enter a forum. :(

Edit your first (original) post in this topic. You'll be able to change the subject line, then.
[ Puppy 4.3.1 JP, Frugal install ] * [ XenialPup 7.5, Frugal install ] * [XenialPup 64 7.5, Frugal install] * [ 4GB RAM | 512MB swap ]
In memory of our beloved American Eskimo puppy (1995-2010) and black Lab puppy (1997-2011).
