Pet package Installation
Mavrotha
I have tried to install some of the PET after installing your pet installer. However, showing error, hence not installed anything through your application.

If you tell me the "error" I might be able to say something...rameshiyer wrote:Mavrotha

Language support is very important, but can really inflate the SFS. Ideally paka will split the languages out and than could be offered as add-on packages.simargl8 wrote: Also paka script that converts Arch packages now has support for having more than one locale
saved in main iso. Earlier all non-english /usr/share/locale files were remove, now I could leave some more in (like Serbian )
Here's screenshot:
So one could install only the language of interest (puppy does that but has support for only a handful of languages)

marvothol, thanks for the packages.
Unpet is missing /usr/share/pixmaps/ sqashfs-image.png for the uninstall sfs button, the package manager button opens the same window and remove built in packages doesn't apply to Archpup. I got rid of the last and changed ppm to open inpet (nice job on that by the way, should be very handy)
Quickset is a nice one to have, although I am having a hell of a time getting Archpup to show the right time and date after reboot. Hwclock=localtime, and cmos is correct as well. Anyway, I only had to comment out 1 line to get set-time-for puppy to work so a least I can easily change to the correct date/time.
Below is a tar.gz with the files in the proper folders for set-time-for-puppy. Maybe someone could make an arch package for it, I haven't figured that out yet.

Comment this in /etc/profile
Code: Select all
else
if [ $X_AUTOLOGIN == "yes" ]; then exec archpupx; fi
Type X -configure, and copy /root/xorg.conf.new to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Check if archpupx works.
Thanks.rg66 wrote: Unpet is missing /usr/share/pixmaps/ sqashfs-image.png for the uninstall sfs button, the package manager button opens the same window and remove built in packages doesn't apply to Archpup. Fixed in v0.2 above
You do it! Actually once you have the tarbal uploaded somewhere (ie above ) and you do not need to compile anything, in a folder you have a file named "PKGBUILD" that looks like this.rg66 wrote:Maybe someone could make an arch package for it, I haven't figured that out yet.
Code: Select all
# This is an example PKGBUILD file.
#Maintainer:
pkgname=petmanager_archpup # should be the same as your tar.gz file
pkgver=0.2 # should be the same as your tar.gz file
pkgrel=1
epoch=
pkgdesc="Install and uninstall puppy linux pet packages in Archpup"

md5sums=('a0f8201f4bad9c6b4aa193a8706165e9') #this is for the tar.gz that you'll download
package() {
cd "$srcdir/$pkgname-$pkgver"
rm -f pet.specs pinstall.sh puninstall.sh
mv * "$pkgdir/"
}
# vim:set ts=2 sw=2 et:
Code: Select all
post_install() {
[ ! -d /root/.packages ] && mkdir root/.packages
touch root/.packages/Packages-puppy-fake
cat << EOF >> root/.packages/INFO
This folder contains information for the installed pets and the files
in each pet you installed.
If you uninstall petmanager_archpup without uninstalling all the pets
you may have installed, can help you to remove the files.
EOF
}
Where it becomes tricky is if your pet has a /root/Startup file. In this case you post_install function should also have some sed command to add starting of the program in /root/.start. Something like
Code: Select all
sed -i 's/volumeicon \&/volumeicon \& \
exec \/root\/Startup\/app_to_start/' /root/.start
Code: Select all
makepkg --asroot
Now lets have the package

The truncate version af Archpup 13.2 is incompatible with find_cat.rameshiyer wrote: I have tried to install some of the PET after installing your pet installer. However, showing error, hence not installed anything through your application.
Try version 0.4 above.

@mavrothal
Wow, u've got a lot of 'coolness' going on in here.
The tools though, and pretty much the whole project is a lil scattered all over the place. Don't you think we should set up a webpage of some sort. that links to the custom packages, and desktops, and ISOs?
Also explaining the tips and tricks and neat features the system has? The info is spread out over about 6 threads. funny as it may sound, i just started using 'makesfs' today. i've been doing in the hard way. primarily due to a lack of knowledge.
I made a post over on Arch Linux forums, and linked them to Puppy Projects to learn more about the distro. which really isn't an ideal location. There's really nowhere that is. Nowhere to tell someone, "Hey go check out ArchPup." and link them to a clean location, that illustrates exactly how to use it and also to download it.

I would agree about the scattering, but I'm not sure about the consolidation simply because there are different ideas about it.stifiling wrote: The tools though, and pretty much the whole project is a lil scattered all over the place. Sinisa is developing the system trying to find the right mix of things, without a lot of consideration of bug squashing and polishing.
That is understandably since the next version may be different enough not to have these issues, and also the rolling nature of Arch.
You appear more interested in a modern fully fledged desktop and functionality, regardless of size and speed, targeting newer bigger desktop and laptops.
I (my target machines) would like Archpup to keep the better aspects of puppy. ie the apps and scripts and wizards that provide a fully functional system for almost for any hardware, at ~150MB. Currently archpup to do the same needs 250MB+, thus my efforts for puppyfication.
(Case in point compare Saluki to the XFCE-Archoup. Almost twice the size and still without any office apps)
Add Sinisa's temporary "disappearance" and scattering is in full blow.
Regarding a new site then. Archpup has a site, Sourceforge. It is up to Sinisa (or someone willing to help and Sinisa willing to grand access ) to beef it up.
Archpup also has a wiki page that could be polished, beefed-up and serve as an entry point.
Of course could have its own new site (LXpup has a nice one for example), but if it is going to be more than an entry point, needs whoever is producing the ISOs to be on top of it.
I'll contribute if I can.
Edit: typos.

Try version 0.3 above.
Install with "-Uf" so will overwrite the original /usr/bin/truncate file

If you do not get a "fail to install" dialog then it is a problem with your installation.rameshiyer wrote:I have used latest version only. May be due to other problem in my installation. If you do, re-download and install the latest version (now v 0.4; does not need to be installed with the -f option)

Is just a symlink in the install script. I'll see to it but does not affect anything.
Latter: Fixed now. Thx
However, your filesystem should NOT be 777
What is the output of the "ls -l /" command?

Archpupy 13.2
i don't know what went wrong. Anyway I will reinstall with 13.2.1 after release.
pet-to-arch(pup) converter
I would like to inform you that now I am able to install PET file through "petmanager-archpup". I got installed PeasyPDFv2.3 got through today's Barry's blog2 announcement. This PasyPDFv2.3 is very very small. Only 3.00KB !!. However function wise very BIG. This type of program is required for Archpuppy, so that we can maintain the size of the ISO as desired by us. Mavrothal Thanks. Keep it up. PeasyPDF link is given below for your considerationmavrothal wrote:.
So now you can either use petmanager_archpup to install a pet for yourself or pet2arch to install it for yourself and pass it to the others
Give it a try.
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_pa ... df-2.3.pet
However, no menu entry is created while installing through ArchPet Manager. How to make menu entry. I hope, I can make shortcut for PeasyPDF in xface provided by Stiffing.
