I have some chinese txt files in my windows partition and when i open it in my slacko 5.4 with geany, puppy's default editor, they are not displayed correctly.
I have changed other editor in slacko, such as leafpad. It does not work, either.
And I have also try the "reload as" function in geany, to change the encoding to GB2132 GB18030 GBK, but it still does not work.
I have search the forum but get nothing.
Who can help to fix this problem??
How to view my chinese .txt files correctly in puppy linux?

Does Chinese display correctly from Linux files?
If so the problem could be the encoding Windows is using, It probably uses ANSI no Unicode
Windows 936: Simplified Chinese GBK
Windows 950: Traditional Chinese Big5

check the encoding settings in the editor

Hello cygfg
If you just want to be able to read Chinese, install this .pet :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/851rva8srcrr9 ... ts-ttf.pet
If you want to type as well, and even have the entire system in Chinese, you can find lots of .pet files here:

My linux can display chinese correctly from linux files, only windows files display incorrectly.
I have check my geany editor. It does have the Simplified Chinese GBK and Traditional Chinese Big5 encoding, but when I choose these encoding, it still display incorrectly.
I have tried another editor the bluefish editor, but it does work~~
Do I need a specific editor to open txt files created in windows? If so, which should I use?

My system is able to read Chinese already, my problem is that, I can't open my chinese txt files created in windows~
Using Geany I'm not sure it can work out the encoding. If I open a file containing Chinese I have to use the 'reload' function to display it correctly.
Steps
* Open file as normal
* Go to File > Reload As > East Asian > select one
Do any of these options work?
If not is it possible to upload an example Windows encoded Chinese text file that we can test?

Sorry to bump up an old topic, but this is where the wiki leads to.
For Korean fonts, I am having glitches in BionicPup64! Chinese and Japanese text is perfect, but Korean displays all bugged in vivaldi!

Is there a fix to this? Palemoon displays text properly, but cannot play codecs!
