Slacko 5.5 Final
Slacko-5.4.0.5-4G
Slacko-5.4.0.5-4G
Haven't messed with Slacko much since before 5.4.0.3 (didn't like the opera browser - some video sites refused to run on it) Had a time downloading 5.4.0.5, three different days before I got a good download where Slacko would run, or I should say even load at all! But we finally got a good one.
Looks really good overall... in fact the only problem I encountered was installing hplip-3.13 from the PPM. It appeared to go through all the motions of a good download? I tried to set up my printer and it was a no go? Went back into PPM to delete the hplip and do a new reinstall... it wasn't there to delete? I finally had to use a few hplip-3.11 .pet packages I had to get the printer going. Where that hplip-3.13 download went (if in fact it downloaded at all) I can't find it?
See you fixed up puptelly... nice!
One really minor thing, playing a mp4 video in player, the default graphic-color settings are out of sync... have to manually adjust for each play which is sort of a pain.
WiFi took TWO (2) trys to setup with the SNS I notice this in quiet a few new puppy's? But... once setup it runs like a mule... reconnects after shutdowns and restarts, and no drops all day. (Linksys AE1000 usb - verizon router/modem combo - rt2800usb module)

Hi Indian,
No idea what your video issue could be, but different options to mplayer may help.
Billtoo, I have tempicon running on my son's i5. Slacko flies on this thing .. just wish I had the time (and the time on this machine}, to figure out the graphics switching... there is a nice radeon card hidden in there!
--
yad-19.1 is up, so too gparted 14.1 and some other goodies, You can update PPM to see.
EDIT.. looks like we shoot for slacko-5.5 now that BK has released wary/racy-5.5

ally.. I can't make the time to figure it out, but apparently pemasu has done it anyway. I think the proprietary driver is needed. I'll have to wait for a few months to get that one working. I run out of time completely this coming week.

I installed it on the i7 and it seems to be working, bit of difference with it and the sensors in hardinfo though.01micko wrote: Billtoo, I have tempicon running on my son's i5. Re: Slacko-5.4.0.5-4G
As usual, your source for HP printer drivers is here, not a repo.sszindian wrote: I tried to set up my printer and it was a no go? No. That's all there is.01micko wrote:I gather that is committed to pox-git?mavrothal wrote:

The tarball has the udev-175-i486 exe, dev and doc pets.
I do not keep binaries in Pox_git or pet build scripts since is distro indepndent.
Too bad the forum minimized attachment size to 250KB.

Tempicon
The difference is due to the fact that it is displaying the GPU temperature rather than your CPU temperature. Could be the possibility of a new selectable feature here.Billtoo wrote:I installed it on the i7 and it seems to be working, bit of difference with it and the sensors in hardinfo though.01micko wrote: Billtoo, I have tempicon running on my son's i5. I want to test this one now instantly and
I want to use it without save file and I want to
build a zdrive.sfs for to load automatically
at boot so I get the set the personal settings.
Now I need to do 22 clicks to get all the personal settings right.
The problem is that I fail to make a zdrive that really works.
this is Slacko -RC-5.4.0.5 so the name of the zdrive should be
zs540233.sfs or should it be zs405233.sfs for to work or are the
numbers for the human and the computer do not care about number?
I will reboot now into this latest version and read you comments
Edit I am now rebooted and will check Flash on browser
worked good and it seems I am in firefox and not seamonkey
that is a surprise to me Thanks for that one.
Oops have I failed to read again.
Sorry I have no idea what a Delta is. I just know the Slacko
I already have works best and this one seems as good so maybe
it is the same then?

Do I need to start a new thread about what to name the zdrive?
I will use it in this latest slacko so hope it is okay to ask here?
Does slacko load a zdrive even if the numbers are wrong?
How does one know what number for this one?
Now I use zs540233.sfs is that right?
I have to run now and get back within 3 hours.

not an ideal solution though

Not much time but....... quick manual frugal install of 5.4.0.6 (no problem with delta) on the Athlon XP box. As expected, everything appears good.

There are several things. How I use dual graphics. If I use intel, in BIOS I choose switchable and after that intel will be chosen. If I choose in BIOS discrete, ati graphics will be used. It works quite well with Precise Puppy and Dpup Wheezy. Dpup Wheezy radeon drivers have been best. I get even HDMI video-audio through it. But LCD TV resolution is not quite right. Usable though.I can't make the time to figure it out, but apparently pemasu has done it anyway. I think the proprietary driver is needed. I'll have to wait for a few months to get that one working. I run out of time completely this coming week.
If I want to take all out from ATI HD 5650, I compile or install ATI proprietary driver and then I can use HDMI video and audio. Audio needs some tricks, usually. Resolution in my LCD TV will be right also.
Also....when I use intel...I power off ati graphics, because it consumes power even when it is not used. I compile acpi_call.ko module and then I use script to power off ati. That way I have longer battery life and laptop also is cooler.
There is possibility to use vgaswitcheroo to switch between intel and ati when opensource modules and drivers have been used. It needs right configured kernel and that you get /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo visible. For me....my ati hd 5650 has been problematic. I have ended to kernel crash when I have used it. I havent tried it at least in year now....so probably progress has been made.
But...vgaswitcheroo is the keyword for on the fly switching. Gentoo pages has good explanation for kernel and how to use vgaswitcheroo.
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Vga_switcheroo
As you see...you need kernel with radeon and intel KMS enabled as default and with all consequences due to that.
Slacko 5.5 RC
I used the delta to create 5406.iso then burned the iso to a dvd.
Booted dvd and did a frugal install to the hard drive with universal
installer.
Booted up frugal install and installed kdegames with ppm, works.
Installed devx, kernelsource and compiled proprietary nvidia driver.
Installed pets and an sfs, chromium says flash outdated, fixed with
getflash.
Copied pvr firmware to /lib/firmware.
Several reboots along the way.
Ran remaster live cd, then burned the remaster.iso to a dvd.
Booted up remastered live dvd, here I am.

No Broadcom wl??
Hi Mick
Notice that the Broadcom WL driver is no longer included in Slacko 5.4.0.6 - is this a deliberate omission??
It works fine if it is loaded....
Cheers

Apologies for inconvenience but I had major corruption of my woof tree on a woof upgrade. No idea of the cause but a downgrade of woof, then a reupgrade fixed it.

network_tray
Hey Mick
At last I managed to set up GRPS connection via my old SE k750i (connected via USB cable), because I wanted to test network_tray's ability of changing tray icon.
Spent some time trying different combinations, restarting X and digging inside modemiconset* script, until I downloaded network_tray source code and looking into it I got "feeling" (still don't know C) that probably it somehow depends on Frisbee.
So in the end I launched Frisbee and indeed - the icon has changed instantly! (screenshot)
And it looks really cool!
I just wonder, or rather do not fully understand why there's a need to launch Frisbee, to enjoy that feature..?
There's also possibility that I'm doing something wrong - I'm not a "network guy" btw.
Ah, the "splash-screen mess in chars" somehow survived and it's still there.
* modemiconset - I don't know if that really matters, but while playing with it I found that if the script is called without arguments, it spits out "[: too many arguments" error.
It's because my number in /etc/wvdial.conf is *99# - wrapping all "$FIRSTDIGIT" vars in double quotes has fixed that "problem".
Greetings!
