partsman, thanks for all the support and kind words, much appreciated - hope your custom akita is holding up alright... I've yet to get time to test it, but am still definitely gonna do so at some point!

I will double check the browser installer... it'll be fixed in the next Akita.
Then i tried your method: it downloaded the pet and installed it, but the ppm told me once again that "HOWEVER, these dependencies are missing" (follows a list).
the missing dependencies can usually be ignored with firefox 3.6 packages... Firedog/FF 3.6 reports missing libs, but it'll be fine...
I cheched in the Internet\WWW menu and in fact there was no Firefox\Firedog entry...but indeed it was installed! in fact, when i clicked on the "browse" icon on the desktop, firedog came up. why there's no icon? why i got those dependencies errors?
After installing a local pet file, (a .pet that you've downloaded), you may need to run 'Refresh Desktop', ... you should then see the menu entries for firedog..
oh, i'd also like to help you in fully translating puppy akita in italian, just tell me how i can be useful
Look in
/usr/share/locale/*/LC_MESSAGES/, and look for the
*.locale files --> these are just normal text files, you can open them in a text editor, translate to italian, and save the file, with the SAME NAME, in
/usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/
The
*.mo files (they are created using 'gettext' and 'poedit') are more complicated... the .mo files will need you to load the devx and install poedit, only then can you open the .mo files ... There are guides on this forum about how to do this...
- the devx can be downloaded here:
http://akita.scottjarvis.com/akita_devx-b11.sfs,
- poedit here:
http://akita.scottjarvis.com/poedit-1.4.2-3-i686.pet
( to install SFS files, right-click on them in the file manager, and choose 'SFS Loader' )
From the main Akita post:
Translations: gettext/poedit method
- Poediter for Akita: Download
- Install poediter, type 'poeditor' in the terminal to run it
- then look in /usr/share/doc/nls/*/, for the .po files
- these files contain the base translations, from which others are made
- the final result will be a .mo file, that can be placed in /usr/share/locales/*/LC_MESSAGES
