I've been using Linux Mint 14 Nadia 64 bit version with XFCE4 for a
couple of weeks and it's working well on everything from a emachines
D620 laptop with a single core processor to a multicore desktop pc.
I like the software updates feature, I downloaded and installed Google
Chrome from the Google website and updates for that are found along
with the regular Mint software and security updates.
I still like Puppy too of course

Yeah, Stella's good. It takes all the work out of setting up and running CentOS.James C wrote:Been running Stella .... based on CentOS. Still has good old Legacy Grub and Gnome 2.Even the wobbly windows work.

[james@localhost ~]$ uname -r 2.6.32-279.22.1.el6.i686
Another recommendation; I'm running Snow 4.0 at the moment and I like it a lot. I had a couple of problems with Snow 3, but 4 seems to to be trouble-free. I haven't had it on long but so far it looks like a good competitor for Mint.

I got curious on Manjaro so I downloaded it
and put it on a 4GB USB using the method
that rcrsn51 describe as IsoLoader on this thread
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=67235
My entry on manjaro is here. I could get Midori going but not
reach the HD from USB so maybe one need to be root.

I'm looking forward to the next version of WattOS (v7), which should be out very soon.

It's visually attractive but also lightweight for a Ubuntu-based distro, so it runs well on older computers whilst also being able to access the huge Ubuntu repositories. I also like the name (a watt is a unit of power).

Still no sign of WattOS so I've reinstalled CrunchBang instead. If you don't mind the dark and somewhat spartan interface it's a good Debian-based distro in my view.

As usual with forks of Micro or TinyCore they don't
comment much about the features of the fork instead
the comments are about other things.
not many seems to care about it? But DW at least accepted to link to it.
I tried to use this boot code which failed. Error says something
about path or name. So it needs some correct way to set it up.
title shell
kernel (hd0,0)/shell/kernel loglevel=3
initrd (hd0,0)/shell/rootfs.gz
It boot well on NTFS? but it end up in a prompt
so one has to know what to do to get something going.
I have no clue so I rebooted

So it has an entery at TinyCore forumWelcome to Shell-Linux. Shell-Linux is a Small linux distro
built from Micro Core Linux 2.5 with many user friendly features.

Just tried Joli OS 1.2, full install on a partition of a fast 32gb ssd on my Asus EEE 900.
Could not believe how slow it was, everything from browsing to bringing up the control panel. Plus the layout is incomprehensible.
First Linux I've tried that was really bad. All others so far have had their positive sides, but I didn't find one here, other than the fact that I like the *premise* of Jolicloud.

I read about Slax 7.0 and got curious and downloaded it
and made a frugal install and it booted fast and well.
Root and can do much of what Puppy do to but maybe
us a bit different due to K windows instead of JWM
flash already install in Firefox so it was easy to use it.
About 200MB

You could be right. I got a failed download when I tried to download alinux (which used to be called Peanut Linux), which was a bit annoying after I'd spent nearly 4 hours trying to download it. So I downloaded the pre-release version of Mint Debian instead, which was a lot quicker, and now that I've installed it it seems to work well.Bligh wrote:I was disappointed that alinux would not boot for me. It took over 5 hrs to download it but the md5 appeared to be ok so I burned a rw dvd. There is a post in the comments section of distrowatch indicating that the dl links are dead and that there may be an issue with the dvd.
Cheers

Only 165 MB is that not ususally small for to be Debian?

I think that "165 MB" is a mistake. When I clicked on the link to download it I got "1.6 GB" inside the box, which I believe is much more likely.nooby wrote:What about this one then?
