Upup Raring 3.8.7 with non-PAE 3.8.7 kernel, created using
virtualbox on Raring
pemasu wrote:rasul. Thank of the feedback. About Virtualbox. I know nothing about it. But....it sounds like you will need kernel sources sfs also to be loaded...if the pet....or virtualbox environment inside it compiles kernel module driver for virtualbox on the fly....just guessing....I really know nothing about Virtualbox. Now more experienced Puppy users should step in and give help.
Oh, sorry, after some years of using puppy I am still an newbie! I thought devx also contain the kernel modules but I mentioned @Asterisk has written in his post that
"There is also a package that should work for any kernel, provided you have loaded or installed the devx and kernel source modules for your Puppy."
Thanks for the hint, right now I am downloading your kernel source sfs, I will report back the result GodWilling.

Re: virtualbox on Raring
Yes it worked excellently, even my USB drives are identified by the virtual computer, something that I could not achieve very easily in many other distros.rasul wrote:I will report back the result GodWilling.

Think this is because Upup Raring does not have the patched glib like other puppies like Slacko and Upup Precise....linux28 wrote:gvfs:

glib and pup-volume-monitor
Compiling unpatched source fixes it.
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 449#696449
And this has nothing to do with url linked jemimah patch. It creates samekind mechanism using glib inbuild monitor properties than pup-volume-monitor. Basically it fixes somewhat glib for puppies.
So...compiling glib from source:
./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --build=i486-pc-linux-gnu --disable-selinux --disable-fam
....is the way to go. The problem. Is some of debian patches needed. I did include 2 of them:
03_disble_glib_compile_schemas_warning.patch
05_run-gio-tests-with-a-dbus-session.patch
Here is the links to the original glib source:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... rig.tar.xz
Here is the link to the ubuntu patches:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... ian.tar.gz
Yep...I really dont know which of those disturbs pup-volume-monitor and causes error messages. Those 2 included dont do it.
If you want pup-volume-monitor to the Upup Raring, you need to test my compiled glib and install pup-volume-monitor:

Not true. The problem is that Ubuntu patches causes the pup-volume-monitor error messages.Think this is because Upup Raring does not have the patched glib like other puppies like Slacko and Upup Precise....

I did only say "think" - not "know"
Thanks for analyzing the situation correctly and with proper knowledge....
I have done more tests:
I built my LxPup-by-SFS add-on using your provided glib2 and p-v-m pets.
The test to see if everything is OK is to run pcmanfm from a terminal - but this just showed that pcmanfm terminated immediately without producing any error messages.
So what I did then was to copy just the libgio-2.0.so.0.3600.0 from your pet into /usr/lib and I found that by doing this both pcmanfm and pup-volume-monitor both worked as expected (p-v-m by the way is not your pet but the one provided by akash_rawal which seems to work OK in many puppies).
So, your recompile does get rid of the error messages but only libgio needs to be replaced, not the whole of glib2.
Hope this helps.....
Cheers
peebee
p.s. I will upload and link the new lxpup-by-sfs files to thread http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=85259
p.p.s. I found in running lxterminal that libpng-14 is missing from upup-raring - only the older libpng-12 is there

Raring 3.8.4.3?
Raring 3.8.10?
Thank you!Look forward to the update!pemasu wrote:I wait what happens with xorgwizard. And I am also very busy with other things atm.Thank you, as well as update it?
Ubuntu Raring Ringtail has now been released so that is not problem. Of course there will be updates but core packages are about there now.
For testing new xorgwizard and xorgwizard-cli, I woofed 3.8.7 kernel Upup Raring.
It has jwm-733. Also pup-volume-monitor and suitable libgio are included. I did use Ubuntu Raring Ringtail packages of today ie fresh downloads.
I think this build could be usable for testing new kernel, new xorgwizard, and newest jwm. Also release status ubuntu packages have been used.
I might still update the kernel which is now in version 3.8.10.
But....some feedback of the new xorgwizard in this build would be useful.
If you get non usable /etc/X11/xorg.conf, you can exit to prompt state, type: rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf and the launch X with: xwin ....and the automatic xorg.conf will be created, it is suitable for most situations by automatic creation. I usually dont need xorgwizard usage.
Dowload Upup Raring 3.8.7: http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/UpupRari ... Raring387/
