How to carry out a FULL installation on HDD Lighthouse 64 601 Beta. Universal installer does not work, can have a special program for the assembly.

Hi again Tazoc
Can’t wait for the next release and the new SFS add-on’s etc.
In the meantime I’ve got so much to learn about using LH64=601beta.
I particularly like the xfce desktop, especially the way it allows you to manage both screens, very useful.
Your website is also very comprehensive, much to read & learn.
Thank you again - very best regards - Ray

full hard drive installation?

I recommend the Puppy-standard frugal install and do not support a full hard drive installation. One of the strengths of PuppyLinux is the layered file system. This places core files in highly compressed read-only layers and allows for many .sfs (squash file system) add-ons which can be a combo-pack of many packages in one lzma/xz compressed file. These add-ons are also layered in read-only for reliability and convenience. The optional Devx-L64.sfs offers a complete compiling environment with kernel source, all in one file. Another advantage of the frugal install is that multiple Pups or LH64 versions can share the same partition, each installed into its own folder, (1 level deep with LH64.) Your files and settings will be in one L64save file, great for backups and ideal for encryption, if desired.
Fatdog64, upon which LH64 was based on, uses a similar layered file system approach as well. It uses /aufs instead of /initrd but otherwise this link elaborates on the design considerations of the layered file system:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/web/fa ... ystem.html
You can do a frugal install without using the Universal Installer quite easily. Just copy these four files from the CD...
initrd.xz (Initial ramdisk)
vmlinuz (Linux kernel)
L64-nnn.sfs (This is called the main file, nnn is the release version)
click-to-verify-* (md5sum verification script)
Optional: extra SFS file add-ons e.g., LibreOffice.sfs
...to the root of a hard drive partition. The partition doesn’t need to be empty, it just needs enough free space. Makes upgrades easier and a similar approach will work on flash media as well.
Hope that helps,
TaZoC

Hello tazoc.
Thanks for the quick and detailed response, it was easier to answer - "full installation is not provided."
I use frugall only usb flash drives on my desktop prefer full, why ask.
The assembly is good, no problems found all of the equipment (in the caption), good luck in creating Lighthouse 64.

Flash plugin update 285 released; 602 plans
Greetings,
I was reminded that there is an Adobe Flash plugin update.
Here it is for LH64 6.01, Flash-11.2.202.285-x86_64:
SFS: http://www.lhpup.org/sfs/601-x86_64/
Pet: http://www.lhpup.org/update/L64-601/Internet/
(Tentative) Release Notes for 602 Beta 2:
http://www.lhpup.org/release-lhp.htm#602
If I recall, edoc and gcmartin offered to test UEFI support in 602, prior to general release. Please let me know if I've left anyone out. I'm thinking about starting a new thread within Forum index » Advanced Topics » Cutting edge for that purpose. Or maybe I should just open a new 602 thread here, hmmm...
Regards,
TaZoC

(I still havent had time to build 3.9.x yet)
Re: Flash plugin update 285 released; 602 plans

Hi edoc,
I found more bugs in the beta and have been working on those, as well as updating Frisbee wi-fi manager, Retrovol mixer and misc. scripts from a recent Woof.
I ordered an Asus notebook with Win8 and Nvidia graphics (my first notebook and second 64-bit machine.) So hopefully soon I will also be able to test UEFI support as well as Nvidia drivers prior to posting them. I still like the ATI/AMD hardware that is on my desktop; it has been very reliable. I will let you know as soon as an ISO is posted.
AwesomesaurusRex,
Welcome and thank you, I hope 602 will work as well for you as it does for me!
Regards,
TaZoC

Aww thanks! I wasnt expecting a personal reply so fast! I hope the next version works great for me too!
I do have a question for you. I'm new to linux and I've been looking at lots of screenshots online and alot of the ones I like use something called fluxbox. do you have this for your version of linux? I looked on your site but i did not see it, but I sometimes miss things by looking too fast.
Yea the "It's Alive" comment was in reference to the computer I've been talking about building for a while. Specs are show in that picture.edoc wrote:Are you referring to the ASUS Z9PE-D16/2L mb?
I was hoping it was the Beta ...
We are still waiting on the Beta. Just keep in mind that the longer you wait the better the product will be.
I can't even see the laptop that is waiting on the Beta ... it's hidden under a pile of papers and things ... it helps me to be less impatient if I can't see it!
