I set up pupdial and entered a password and username for the local internet provider, it dialed out and connected but the username and password weren't valid so it hung up, does work though.

Guess the entire Linux world is in trouble. From Distrowatch:(Emphasis mine.)simargl wrote:This topic's title claims that after 10 years of development
Puppy Linux is still alpha software,
and if true that is really sad.
alpha software definition
A very early version of a software product that may not contain all of the features that are
planned for the final version. Typically, software goes through two stages of testing before it is
considered finished.
Alpha version describes a development status that usually means the first complete version of
a program or application, which is most likely unstable, but is useful to show what the product
will do to, usually, a selected group—and is also called preview version; the beta version is
usually the last version before wide release, often tested by users under real-world conditions.
http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20130708
Summary of expected upcoming releases
2013-07-11: openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 3
2013-07-25: Ubuntu 13.10 Alpha 2 (for opt-in flavours)
2013-07-25: OS4 14.1 (see roadmap)
2013-07-29: Frugalware Linux 1.9rc1
2013-08-01: Ubuntu 13.10 Alpha 3 (for opt-in flavours)
2013-08-08: openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 4
2013-08-12: Frugalware Linux 1.9rc2
2013-08-15: Ubuntu 12.04.3 (see release schedule)
2013-08-26: Frugalware 1.9 (see roadmap)
2013-09-05: Ubuntu 13.10 Beta 1 (for opt-in flavours)
What is your difficulty in understanding that there are alpha, beta and release candidate releases before any final release? Developers have been using the term "alpha" long before you chose to name your distro.
Returning back to the normal thread........
Manual frugal install on the old P3 (733 Mhz/256 Mb ram/1Gb swap) test box.Sound and display correct and working on initial boot...... used SNS to get internet connection.Installed QTWeb once again.

If QtWeb pops up ssl certificate errors from time to time, installing ssl certificates and needed folders will stop them. Here is pet to enable installing them. You need /etc/ca-certificates.conf file. Only this file is included in the pet.
Install the pet.
PPM > ca-certificates-some-date.deb
In console: update-ca-certificates
Done.

Totally and utterly wrong once again.Do you really not have a clue or do you just like to create controversy?simargl wrote:James C wrote:...there are alpha, beta and release candidate releases before any final release?
Puppy never used alpha, beta and release candidate release scheme in the past
See the link in pemasu's post.
Figured you might have learned from the Archpup fiasco....but evidently not.

I checked this pet:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_pa ... nglish.pet
It has included this file:
/etc/xdg/menus/puppy-multimedia.menu
That file does not have the new multimedia submenu entries. It will cause that openbox does not show for example: Asunder, Gnome-Mplayer, Mhwaveedit, Pdvdrsap.
I think fix and reupload is recommended.

Hi pemasu et al,
Thank you pemasu - your ssl-certificate-fix-0.0.1.pet fixed my download problems with Qt-Web v 3.8.4 (which did not exist in v 3.7.3).
Qt-Web has been my most used browser for many months, but there may be three aspects for new users to take care with:
(1) If the download window is cleared using "Clean up" with any download(s) still in the original download location then total loss will occur.
(2) Before adding any personalised shortcuts it is suggested making a backup of the Qt-Web folder - because although it's a great feature - there may be a few strange and irrecoverable non-working results (at least for non-experts like me).
(3) I renamed my bookmarks to shorten them (or put them in a-long-bookmarks folder). Also, if a large number of bookmarks are imported the bookmark sidebar may look strange - until some items have been shortened and/or moved into new folders.
My regards

Openbox with extras is now called OpenboxPlus. It has two panel options (Lxpanel/Tint2) a fix for the xdg menu and many other enhancements:pemasu wrote:I checked this pet:

You might also want to check Openbox-P, a lightweight alternative with FBpanel:

Feedback, fixes, themes, and translations for these packages are highly appreciated.
