Thanks ally.

I'm trying it as we speak. GParted has been reading the device for some time now but I suppose that's to be expected for a 64GB drive over USB.

Maybe you could help with this; the reason I'm trying to format it is that I copied some files over this afternoon which apparently failed and when I viewed the drive their icons were warning triangles and it wouldn't let me delete them due to Input/Output error. Hardware failure shouldn't be an issue as its a new device.

If you get no joy from GParted (but it should do the job ok)

If you have Windows, there is kill Disk, a free program that definitely will destroy your data and then bring your usb flash back from the dead.

Tried it a couple of times when Puppy did a mess all over the usb carpet and
it solved the problem.
Actually, it might run under Wine if you can't be bothered to boot up Billy, not sure tho'.

if the file system has corrupted try right-click and 'check'

pdisk from the system menu is also available to delete partitions and re-format

had to use once with a disc that refused to format in gparted

good luck

Hi

I have had the occasional usb stick that g-parted could not see. pdisk may do it as stated and there is an easy to use HP programme that, unfortunately, only works in windows. It is:
http://download.cnet.com/HP-USB-Disk-St ... 74082.html.
or google hp usb format tool.

Regards
