With my Broadcom 4312 wifi....
Precise 5.7.1 k3.9.11 exhibits the wifi blocked on boot "feature" - shared with Slacko 5.5.71 k3.10.1 - necessitates adding "rfkill unblock wlan" to /etc/rc.d/rc.local
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

We have YASSM and the rox-app for windows shares.. anyone want me to add in Pnethood? I might anyway.
EDIT: Later.. ok it's in.. only 18k.
Almost built, I have been testing all afternoon, built broadcom, and ndiswrapper for 3.10.5. I'll have a delta up soon and tomorrow I'll put up full isos.
Then on to some packages - video drivers, update libreoffice, maybe merge peebee's lx sfs with compiz.. some things will go though due to lack of time, such as the openshot sfs as ffmpeg will break that. If you want to package some thing big then I can give you a public ftp to my site.

In Precise Puppy 5.7.1 when you run pMusic as spot then quit pMusic
streamripper keeps on downloading the stream, the same thing happens
in this new version 5.5.77 of Slacko.
I reported the problem in Precise 5.7.1 to zigbert but he doesn't know
about this one.
Downloading streams in VLC and Clementine as user spot work fine in
Precise 5.7.1, cmus too, anyway, maybe you can see what's up with it?
Thanks

Hi Mick,
Another great distribution. Only problem noted is trying to compile the nvidia driver using getnvidia. The installation log below shows this: ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid."; \
echo >&2 " include/generated/autoconf.h or include/config/auto.conf are missing.";\
echo >&2 " Run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' on kernel src to fix it."
Otherwise, it's running great.

Wifi soft blocked in Slacko 5.5.77 k3.10.5
Hi mick01micko wrote: 5.5.71 >> 5.5.77 ~29MB for the delta (iso is ~164MB when reconstructed)
Slacko 5.5.77 k3.10.5 still exhibits the wifi soft-blocked on boot "feature":
The wl.ko driver is working fine once the wlan is unblocked.# rfkill list
0: hp-wifi: wlan
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no
I did have a bit of a funny with geany where neither the close button nor the close menu item was responding - had to kill geany to close the window.....also happened with pnethood....maybe a problem with lxpup-by-sfs rather than slacko - but wasn't seen with 5.5.71....
Cheers

Re: Slacko-5.5.77 PAE
That's actually not the error. It's just a statement to be echoed if that error occurs. It simply fails because the kernel is too "new", or rather nvidia is too slow (Linus? ). If nvidia remain too slow I'll supply a patched (or beta) driver. One day nvidia will catch up!Jim1911 wrote: ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid."; \
echo >&2 " include/generated/autoconf.h or include/config/auto.conf are missing.";\

Here's the actual error:
Code: Select all
/tmp/selfgz16541/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-319.23/kernel/nv-i2c.c: In function ‘nv_i2c_del_adapter’:
/tmp/selfgz16541/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-319.23/kernel/nv-i2c.c:327:14: error: void value not ignored as it ought to be
peebee, that's a shame about that stupid rfkill bug. None of the kernel devs must be able to get near a lappy like yours! Anyway, I'll slot in the workaround.
billtoo- ~/.spot-status is there for me. See if Sigmund wants to fix that issue, it's not too high on my priorities.

Billtoo,
Actually, I think .spot-status is created in the first run quicksetup if you tick the checkbox "run internet apps as spot". Like I said, not a huge priority but I do hope now that a new slacko is out that Sigmund can fix it.. I sounded a bit blunt didn't I?
EDIT: can you post the contents of .spot-status please? A thought did occur that you may need to add ffmpeg to that list.. but I'm not sure exactly how it works.
I am rebuilding with abiword-2.9.4, fresh compile, also enchant-1.6 which fixes saving words to dictionary.
I'll add a work around for peebee's bug and possibly "the bug" still apparent in the k3.4.52 version.
Deltas and isos later today.

Maybe I couldn't see the .spot-status for looking, didn't see it though, could using the delta have anything to do with it?01micko wrote:Billtoo,

I hope pMusic can be made to run as spot, I think the loginmanager is a good addition to puppy, fatdog runs internet applications as spot for added security, if you run xchat as root is says something like "running as root, are you nuts?!"
I removed pMusic from the .spot-status file and added streamripper and ffmpeg.01micko wrote:Billtoo,

Pmusic shuts down properly now and the parts that access the internet are running as spot.
Do you suppose that's the answer?
Adding one or the other of ffmpeg or streamripper along with pMusic seems to screw pMusic up royally in that it will just flash on and off continually and I need to restart x to get out of that.
Billtoo.. yep! I'd say that's it.
Pmusic itself doesn't connect to the net but ffmpeg and streamripper can so I'd say that's the solution. Good job.
BTW, using a class 10 8 GB SD card runs pretty fast with f2fs. Sure beats the crap out of the old 2GB class 4 I was using ..
Another BTW, Abiword-2.9.4 and Enchant-1.6 are up at Ibiblio in the slacko14 repo if anyone wants to test them. Hyperlinks work now, as does saving to the dictionary.
Abiword
Enchant
Attached is a docx I just saved for demo purposes.
