Where does PPM save downloaded .pets?

#1 Post by cOdePuppy »

Hello,

I'm using Puppy 5.3.3. It's running very nice.

While installing, where does Puppy Package Manager save/cache the downloading package files, so I can backup it for future purpose?

Edit: correct version

I installed Puppy in Harddisk.

I find that, download package is possible if there's a "Examine dependencies" option , else only install.
I've checked /tmp but no .pet file.

Anywhere I can find all Puppy official packages for manual download & install?

Puppy repository.

You could try this to make Puppy Package Manager do what you want.

This worked for me. I am using Slacko 5.6.

Normally, the Puppy Package Manager downloads the pet, installs it, and deletes the download to save space. Space is something to be concerned about when using a save file, with a frugal install. The installed program, already is taking up space, so why keep the download taking up more space.

A Puppy frugal install.
/mnt/home is a location outside of the save file. It is the top layer of the partition the frugal install is on.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Thanks for the link. It works in my Puppy too. :)

I'm using Puppy as "root" user & as a newbie, I already destroyed my Puppy with many packages installed through PPM. So I need to backup packages for future mistakes. Would be nice if theres a "non-root" user for using Puppy. I'm searching the forum for it.

cOdePuppy, many puppys allow Spot as a user, an old Didiwiki leftover. There are recent posts about using it for your purposes, a query should find them.

I don’t remember well, but think in puppy 4.x PPM download from PPM to /tmp
/root or /root/download or similar.

After finish the download all Ask you if you want installing pet, Just in this moment yo don’t press nothing and copy the pet download to for example /mnt/home

That way you have copy of the Pet.

See you
