Good. Too bad it brakes the "audit" function in pupmode 2 :o
However the attached is tested to work OK in PUPMODE 2, 12 and 13. Please test in other modes.
Just expand make it executable and replace /usr/local/petget/installpkg.sh
(since installation is broken in pupmode 13 does not make sense to have a pet...)

Did not try 5.6.5 to 5.6.5.2 but 5.6.5.1 to 5.6.5.2 had on issues at my end.
Did you also try a second reboot after the update (had happened to me with several updates in the past -mostly precise - and after another reboot everything was in order)

5.6.5.5 (non PAE)

#251 Post by sszindian »

Report- Slacko-5.6.5.5 'Full .iso download, install from CD with Savefile on Hard Drive-

First check was to setup WiFi as 5.6.5 would not setup with my config - Linksys AE1000 using USB port - I used Frisbee for initial try and that was all that was needed as setup was simple and neat, just asking for my Key (password for wep). Created a save file on Hard Drive and went for a reboot. WiFi survived and set itself up automatically on the reboot... 'nice' and 'thanks for fixing that mic!'

Installed Pwidgets-2.4.2 and that seems to be working just fine so far.

Went to PPM to install xscreensaver... single-clicked the module... 'nothing happened' tried a few times more, same thing... nothing. Don't know why I did but just for the heck of it tried a 'Double-Click' and BINGO, xscreensaver downloaded and installed! Is this a 'new-norm' (the double-click) or did I hit it by accident?

Installed a sfs version of Google Earth and encountered the same problem the new Lucid from rerwin had... search function won't work... Rerwin made a fix in Lucid for this after I brought it to his attention but for now... I Just Rename The 'libcurl.so.4' in /opt/google/earth/free/ to 'OLD-libcurl.so.4' and that takes care of the search function to work properly.

So far everything else appears to be working just fine, graphics nice and clear, speed is very good... on with the testing...

Yeah, I checked and those PPM icons are broken/missing due to non-existent /usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps/*24.png icons, but I suppose it's still work in progress..?

Guilty as charged. It's a side effect of my fix of this bug:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=91038
Perhaps it was possible to retain the single-click somehow, but I didn't even try, because now you can also choose a package using a keyboard (space/enter) what wasn't possible before (only mouse).
Besides, I don't know about the others, but it happened to me quite often to select a package by accident, so I had to press "Cancel" every time.

Anyway, I was a little worried about this change, but you just confirmed my assumption that if single-click doesn't work, instincts tell you to try double-click, so thank you! :)

PS. Uninstallation also requires double-click.
___________

Personally, I'd be also grateful for a feedback regarding drive icons' labels.
This can be enabled via 'Menu -> Desktop -> Desktop drive icons manager -> Show labels...' (then restart X).
It may be also necessary to increase 'Edge gap' parameter a bit.

Are labels (if exist) displayed properly for various devices, etc., etc. ?

Greetings!

Hey Mick

Yeah, I've seen it and was thinking about re-fixing PPM this way, but on the other hand sfs/upgrade managers contain only a few pkgs so sorting is not so important, whereas in PPM, especially in its Uninstallation module, sorting really, really helps if one have a lot of installed packages and need to find specific one.

Hmm, tough decision...so I'll leave it to others, hehe.

Thanks &

5.6.5.2 : no issues, very nice, thanks.
5.6.5.5 : cannot get sound activated by any method; loaded flashplayer v.10 from PPM - always crashes??? Other FP versions11 from PPM don't work either, including the latest from Slacky which has a ridiculously long list of deps. So far this one isn't going anywhere on any of my machines.

I have a problem to report, unfortunately;

Slacko 5.6.5 won't shout down properly. I have to log out to get to the console, type in "halt" at the console, and then switch my computer off.

WiFi

#259 Post by sszindian »

In an earlier post here, I commented on how easy WiFi setup with Frisbee... and it was, however, had a first 'DROP' today (approx 15-hours running) and no recovery was possible so... cold hard shutdown with the button as when this happens (as in other pup's also) it totally locks the computer from shutting down properly...

It would be nice to see an automatic reboot of WiFi when it drops or at least some sort of a disconnect and recovery of the system so the shutdown would be a little easier on the system? I know Frisbee is supposed to have this feature but apparently it doesn't work with puppy builds at least it has never for me.

Hey Peebee

As for PPM icons I just tracked down that it's (partially?) because resizing the icons to 24x24 px has been disabled in icon_switcher.
After uncommenting appropriate line and reloading the theme, all icons came back (see screenshot), but like I said earlier - perhaps it's just transitional state and everything will be resolved in a completely different way..?
I don't know, but hopefully Mick and/or Zigbert will shed some light on the subject. 8)

Regarding the pop-ups: which icons you are referring to?
The only icons that have pop-ups in my case are drives' and Lock/Zip/Trash icons, which are AppDirs really, so they have AppInfo.xml files containg the pop-up text.
The rest of them are "regular" icons...

Greetings!
