[ SOLVED ] HP Pavilion zv5000 Notebook + Puppy Linux

#1 Post by noverix »

Hello to all. I've been trying to install a Linux distribution that machine (with Xubuntu and Debian's), but with little success in the installation goes well, but when I reboot, the screen stays black and nothing happens.

Now my question is that whether someone installed Puppy Linux to the machine and got it to work properly?

Did you install a boot loader?

Finding someone using this exact computer, is probably not going to happen.
There are a lot of versions of Puppy that should work on this computer.

Lucid Puppy 5.2.8.6 would be a good one to try.

For Puppy this will get you started.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Yes I installed. I was looking on google using the instructions and xubuntu and debian and what I found was always the same problem. I came to the conclusion that the graphics drivers, then they were free or closed, so is not suitable for this machine for some reason? I can be wrong in this case.

I downloaded a while ago Puppy 5.7.1 version and I use it just a live cd of this writing, and seems to work well ...

Great when you answer your own question.... by the way these black screens appear to be kms (kernel mode switching) video or sometimes framebuffer problems but for the former I think there is a kms disabling kernel parameter that helps for future reference. (kms=off ????)
